Top 5 Best Online Shopping Platforms For Frugal Buyers in The Philippines

I am someone who lives up not doing the traditional shopping anymore--going to malls or famous tiangges like Divisoria and Taytay where anyone can score amazing deals and all. Not only it's too hassle visiting them on peak season, it also feels like injecting lots of effort and work when there's a way I could sit back and relax at the comfort of my own home while I do the pre-holiday shopping. There's just one con though, you're buying something that might not fit your standards and end up buying items you won't like at all. This happened to me several times and if you are someone who is very conscious and wants to take a very keen look on items before buying, then you might not appreciate this at all. Believe me, I had my fair share of regrets every time I get items that are plain photogenic but there's no way I'll ever stop because why not? I'm getting coupons or discount code in the mail every time and online sale seems so hard to miss.

So if you are living here in the Philippines and you want to score hot but affordable items, I came across five online shopping sites in no particular orders (where I have been a loyal shopper since then) that will definitely fit your lifestyle! But before we proceed, I had criteria that I follow before I chose the best sites: user-friendliness and portability, all-year round deals and coupons and variety of products and merchandises to choose from. Just so you know, here's the top 5 which passed those criteria just in case I won't be able to mention.

1. Shopee.ph

I have mentioned Shopee several times on my blog 'cause this is where I get most of my clothes and makeup. Why not? They are so generous enough giving shoppers coupons that entitles us to huge discounts all the time (usually no minimum purchase required). This is also where I get relevant ideas on what to blog about 'cause they usually features what products people are highly raving about.

2. Carousell.ph

If you are on a tight budget and running out of clothes or other accessories, you can simply scroll through the numerous fashion finds you can get here in Carousell. Although be careful 'cause a lot of items here are preloved but if you are skilled enough, you can get branded and new items for a quarter of their original price.

3. Ebay.ph

The best purchases here at Ebay (for me) are their ultra cheap makeup accessories like false eyelashes, tools and brushes, that is, if you are saving up and don't like to buy high-end ones. They are of the same quality to the ones being sold on online shops here but mostly are half of their price. Gadgets here are way cheaper as well but since I am a bit skeptical in terms of the authenticity of gadgets, jewelries and other expensive products, I don't mind spending a little extra on items sold in the malls which I can concretely touch and scrutinize first before buying.

4. Amazon.com

I like shopping electronic merchandise at Amazon 'cause they always sell the cheapest among all international online shops that ships here in the country. Since I am planning to do vlogging soon, this is where I plan on getting all equipment which I will be needing like lighting umbrellas, microphone, lenses, ring light, etc.

5. Lazada.com.ph

I love it when their skin care products are on sale! Almost all items here are reasonably-priced and delivery is quick although they came from different sellers. One thing you should watch out though is the price difference of the same products. Make sure to filter the products from the lowest to the highest to make sure you're getting the best deal for the same exact item!

This post is not sponsored in any way. If you are following me for quite a while, you definitely could tell I love shopping online. Believe me, it was way beyond months since I last visited the mall, one because I got no time and second, it's much more convenient for working ladies. I came up with these top 5 sites where I really shop and had very little problems encountered. Tell me if you shop on any of these and let's talk about hauls and everything under the sun!

Human Heart Nature Peppermint Lip Scrub Review

Human Nature Peppermint Lip Scrub
Bought for: Sale at P140 | SRP: P175
Bought from: Human Heart Nature

I have never been fond of using lip scrubs every now and then even though I was born with super dry and chapped lips. I even could count on my fingers those particular days when it felt so firm, soft and smooth without loose skin. Back in the days, I used to make my own lip scrub made with coconut and olive oils, honey and sugar but I got tired of it and decided not to apply any at all. I was given with lip scrubs before which did not make much difference as well and so I was triggered to stop hoping for something impossible.

Just a few months ago, I was spouting how my lips felt so sore (it even bleed) due to dryness and I forgot to bring my pouch a.k.a survival kit with Vaseline on it. I asked for my office mates for something I could put on, (sorry for being so unhygienic but I felt desperate), and Celine told me that I can use her Human Heart Nature Lip Scrub. I did try it and just wow. It feels so soothing and I liked it. I know that one day I'll have to get mine as well and so when it went on sale, I go grabbed one together with their Sunflower Lip Miracle in Mint and Tinted Lip Balm.

99.85% Natural | 12g
Claims

Kissably smooth lips. A genuinely natural exfoliant that gently buffs away dry, dull skin to reveal softer, smoother lips. Sugar crystals lift away skin’s rough top layer while a rich medley of miracle moisturizer sunflower oil, jojoba oil and beeswax softens skin and locks moisture onto your lips. A hint of cool peppermint tops off the experience. Sustainably sourced: with fair trade Philippine raw sugar from Negros. No baddies: Free from parabens and mineral oil. Biodegradable: free from polluting plastic microbeads.

Ingredients, Description, How To Use

Packaging

The product is housed in a small plastic tub with a screw cap that shuts tightly so no product leaks out. Also, the box displays all necessary information such as the ingredient list, description and directions for use for conscious consumers like me. One small jar contains 12g of products inside which is way more than sufficient for lots of uses considering that you only need a very meager amount for every application. Very economical, indeed!

Texture, Consistency and Ease of Application

The product has a sticky/greasy texture which is but fine with me 'cause it leaves me the idea that my lips would feel so supple and well-moisturized after my swiping session which is what my lips call for all the time. The product comprises of sugar and lots of moisturizing extracts such as jojoba, sunflower oils and beeswax as well as peppermint extract to impart a nice, cooling effect, perfect to soothe dry lips in an instant. This lip scrub also isn't so abrasive but mild enough to remove loose skin without pain nor irritation. It is so easy to use and you just have to wipe it off with a clean tissue paper and you're good to go.

Performance

We all know that proper exfoliation is needed to get rid of dead skin cells and loose skin. I am so glad that I have Human Heart Nature Peppermint Lip Scrub to restore soft and smooth skin and with continuous use, I am hoping that I'd get to lose the hyper pigmentation on my lips. I have tried only a few lip scrubs in my life and most of them are made of homegrown ingredients and this is my favorite by far. It is so affordable but feels so rich and jampacked with moisturizing ingredients that I am always looking forward to scrubbing my lips every other day. This scrub does not fail to do its job in keeping lips looking plump and soft, lessen the appearance of dryness on the lips and restore healthy-looking kissers. With this, I am not afraid to wear matte lipsticks anymore.

Overall, for its price, this is a really good local product. I can use it wherever and whenever I want without hassle. Sometimes, when I don't have any tissue paper, I just apply a small amount and leave it as is since the sugar melts off easily and all that's left is a fine sheen on the lips. See, no mess! No need to worry because the product is edible and is safe to use whenever you need a surge of moisture!

Note: Don't lick it as saliva could even cause drier lips!

Have you tried Human Heart Nature Peppermint Lip Scrub? Care to share your thoughts? Happy blogging!

First Impression: Serafica Body and Skin Care Products + Price Point

Here's to a first impression review to another organic skin care line I discovered through Instagram: Serafica PH. I found their products quite interesting so I joined their giveaway that whoever wins will luckily receive goodies from them for a period of time. Only 2 winners will be chosen and I was really lucky to be one and be trusted. I also had the freedom to choose which four products to use first and Ms. Jyka was just so nice enough to send a another soap.

Anyway, here's a first impression post about them!

Insta Glam (P120) and Insta Glam Plus (P130) Soaps

Claimed to be the best sellers and I had a pretty good guess why! Both of these lathers well with a creamy texture and feels luxurious on the skin! After a few uses, I already noticed that my skin lit up pretty nicely and I can vouch for it! The Insta Glam Plus Soap smells heavenly and definitely will be a cult-fave! Although I suggest that you lather a generous amount of moisturizer after bath 'cause these may be a bit drying due to its whitening properties.

Strawberry Milkshake Body Scrub (P149)

One of the best-smelling body scrubs ever! P149 for a 250g bottle in a super cute packaging? A definitely good steal! I won't lie when I say that this remove dead skin cells on the skin and best works with the two soaps I just mentioned. I am using it while I still have both soap lathered on my skin and the effect was just too good to miss! My skin feels so soft and supple after every use!

Extreme Whitening Body Lotion ( P250)

This lotion leaves skin brightened up every after use and is lightweight once dried. It also has a huge amount of sun protection (SPF 45). What I don't like is that I find it hard to blend on the skin and leave some white film. It also loses moisture after a few minutes so I need to apply additional moisturizer on top. A good suggestion came from Ms. Jyka: to mix the lotion with some beauty oils. A definitely nice hack to start with if you have dry body skin like mine!

Power White Soap (P120)

Haven't tried this soap yet it looks promising. Will keep you updated though!

All of these products are made with natural and organic ingredients, definitely free of harmful chemicals for a beautiful skin that's healthy inside and out! I will religiously try this product and update you once I emptied everything. I'm excited to see significant results and from the looks of it, I won't get disappointed!

My Latest Sephora Haul: Mario Badescu Acne Control Kit + First Impression

Mario Badescu Acne Control Kit
Bought for: P2,847.50 | SRP: P3,350
Bought from: Sephora PH

I know it rarely gets on sale at Sephora and when they do, it's just impossible to miss it. Since they are mostly sell high-end products, 15-20% off already makes a huge difference on how much you get to save. Take my Mario Badescu Acne Control Kit for example, if my mathematical ability serves me right (lol), I saved P502.50 and I also had my huge parcel shipped straight from Singapore for free because I spent over P1,300. Score!

The last time I blogged about Sephora's upcoming sale, my priority was the Zoeva Makeup Artist Zoeva Bag with 24 pcs face brushes but there's a slight change of heart and get these acne control set instead. My skin, which I believed wasn't so accustomed to my previous skin care, developed tiny white heads and cystic pimples all over my face. I asked myself what went wrong (probably lack of sleep, poor eating habits and stress are the culprits) and just decided to get myself new skin care that would target these problems. I have never tried any Mario Badescu skin care product before and from all reviews I have heard, I decided to spend some bucks and  take a risk.

My parcel was well-packaged and the set was even housed in a green MB box bigger than regular shoe boxes and are well-secured with bubble wraps. The set includes Acne Facial Cleanser, Special Cucumber Lotion, Drying Lotion, Drying Cream, Drying Mask, a signature MB pouch and a compact mirror. I was a bit skeptical about this set at first, because who would need lots of drying products in different form, like seriously? It does not even have any moisturizer on it. Uhm, okay? Anyway, I will be talking more about this on my future reviews about the products. I will post a review for each product because it's a bit unfair for those products in the set that I don't use daily--drying mask, cream and lotion.

Anyway, here's my first impressions about the set!

Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleanser

Smells like alcohol, this cleanser does not lather much which is perfectly fine as it's non-drying and is gentle on the skin. It very much reminds me of Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser but I would say I still like the lather one better as of today.

Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion

I like this toner because it's very hydrating yet it keeps my skin shine-free. It smells of alcohol as well. It also effectively provide extra cleansing ability and gets rid of oil and dirt residue which was not able to remove by the acne facial cleanser.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

A bit strong on the skin so please be careful not to apply on sensitive areas around eyes, nose and mouth. I was expecting it to dry my tiny pimples overnight but no it did not. I am yet to observe its uses.

Mario Badescu Drying Cream

I think of it right now as the most useless product in the set. It is meant to target unsurfaced blemishes and uhm, what does that mean? A cream to prevent future breakouts? Enlighten me please huhu. I would not consider this as a face moisturizer though because it is so sticky and is so hard to blend and reeks of sulfur. I'll be very forgiving if I find any use for this soon.

Mario Badescu Drying Mask

I am not fond of mask, really. I just don't like waiting 10-20 minutes for a mask to dry even if it meant my skin's getting lots of nutrients. This is why I haven't opened this product yet but I'm stoked to try especially after reading some nice good stuff about it.

Will keep you posted about these products, guys! I will use these religiously and get back to you maybe  after a month's time? Let's see. Anyway, do let me know down below if you have tried this set already, good? Happy blogging!

Cathy Doll Snail Mineral Drop DD Cream Review

Cathy Doll Snail Mineral Drop DD Cream
Bought for: Free with points; SRP: P449/138ml
Bought from: Sampleroom

Yey! Today's my big day. Just officially turned 21. Feeling too old lol. Thank you for all the advance and belated greetings, no need to greet me, guys, if you are too busy. It's enough to know you remember today. Silence means a lot haha! Anyway, just because it is my birth day, I am so excited to come up with several blogs just to make up for the past few days where I didn't have any updates or had something new on the way. Any way, to start the rounds of review, here's my thoughts about Cathy Doll Snail Mineral Drop DD Cream which I bought from Sample Room!

Packaging

This product is also formulated in Korea and oh boy, I think I'm being obsessed with K-beauty now lol. More than anything else, I really appreciate that they come in oh-so-adorable packaging with playful designs. The packaging of this DD Cream stands out among all my other body products and I can't help but lovingly look at it from time to time. I am just totally hooked that I think nobody would disagree when I say that it could win in the best packaging category among all Karmart beauty stuff (if there's such thing lol). Also, I am overwhelmed with all the information this product contains and don't get me wrong. People who love to read like me would definitely find a joy skimming through all helpful information. Most of the Korean products I know don't have translations in English and I appreciate that this is an exception. I could spend hours just staring at the beautiful combination of pink and gray and the lovely font styles they use.

Manufacturing and Expiry Dates
This product has a shelf life of three years. It's a good thing for me since I am not seeing myself using this product everyday.

Claims, Direction for use, Caution, Ingredients

Scent

This product smells very subtle. I can't really figure out the perfect word to describe it ('you know I am not too good in determining scents), but it's almost barely there. Nothing too offensive. Those who are very particular with fragrances will not find it too overwhelming.

Texture, Consistency and Ease of Application

The product is creamy white in color and from the looks of it, I know it creates strong white cast which I was not wrong about. Anyway, I will discuss more of these later on. It very much reminds me of whip creams but with added weight and moisture. The DD Cream itself is soft enough to glide on the skin but it feels a little weird 'cause it turns watery when you apply it on your skin. How do I say this? Well, let's put it this way. When you apply it on your skin, it seems like the water used on the product separates on the white cream, therefore, making it harder to blend the product which now turned thicker due to loss of moisture. I'm becoming nonsensical here but this DD Cream really feels weird. I would really say that there's no ease in application as it's taking me several minutes before I completely spread the product onto my whole body. This is not like our typical body lotion that gets absorbed easily on skin. Residues like the strong white casts sets on fine lines and pores and it made me think that all active ingredients are useless since they do not get absorbed by the skin completely. See photo below.

Sorry for my hairy arms lol. I am still scared to try waxing or shaving (this is neither a choice, oh no!). The contrast are true on the first picture. I have awfully uneven skin tone on my arms where I always had my watch on. I didn't find it convenient to bring an umbrella before and apply sunscreen, which is why. I am working on it right now though. :)

Performance

DD Creams claim to have a lot of benefits but I don't buy that. It claims to brighten the skin, which is quite true but it's mainly due to the white cast which does not look good on me. My hairy arms could be a factor but I did try it on my face and I didn't like the effect that much. The cream itself looks too white, weird and incompatible with those who have warm undertones. Just look at my arms! Although it was really able to balance my skin tone, I still think applying this cream on my whole body every day just to match the shade requires A LOT of effort and blending skills (very important!). Oh no, I've had ample time applying makeup and additional preparation won't do me good lol. This might be a perfect fit to those with alabaster skin though.

This product dries easily, lightweight but leaves a slightly tacky and sticky feeling which goes away after minutes. Although the finish wasn't very much likable to me, I appreciate the fact that this product is moisturizing, softening and is non-comedogenic. I tried this on my face as well using a very small amount and it gives me a fresh, dewy look upon application. Dilemma starts after few hours though because it make my T-zone go nuts with oils. If you opt for a dewy Korean skin complexion, then you might enjoy this. And although I did not like the heavy, sticky feeling, it did not break me out after a week of use. Just a piece of advise, if you are to use this as a base makeup or primer, set it with a darker shade of powder to match rest of your body.

Overall Thoughts

Karmart incorporates anti-aging and moisturizing ingredients on this product such as Snail Slime and Collagen (which I believe only comes in small quantities due to rank in ingredient list), but it won't convince me to purchase a second time. There's just too much cons more than pros for me. I read somewhere that this product has other shade which is more suitable to Asian skin and which has a warmer undertone and if that's true, then I might give that one a try 'cause this extreme light shade won't blend well on most Asian skin. Another thing I would like to point out is the price range. If you are to use it only on your face, then you might find it economical to spend P499, otherwise, nuh-uh.

Say Bye to Smelly Hair with Vitress Hair Freshener + Review

Vitress Hair Freshener
Bought for: Free with points | SRP: P55/50ml
Bought from: Sample Room

Claims

Vitress Hair Freshener is a lightly scented spray-on fragrance for the hair infused with InstaFresh Technology that instantly eliminates unwanted odors leaving your hair with a refreshing, long-lasting fragrance and shine.

Don't you just find it annoying that you shampooed your hair well, conditioned it very much before you are off to somewhere and 10 minutes riding in a jeepney can cause it to become icky, unpleasant and limp? Everyday, I just find my hair disgustingly sticky and reeks of pollution and dirt from two hours of commute. Not anymore when I have my Vitress Hair Freshener. which became an instant go-to product for me that I'm keeping on my bag every freakin day to keep my hair from reeking of dirt and sweat. Anyway, here's a brief review about this product!

Packaging

Product comes in a spritz bottle with a floral design which I find really cute. It is also handy that I can bring it anywhere I would like to. The spritz dispenses the product well onto the hair and is just so convenient to use. You will find all important details at the back of the packaging such as the claims, ingredients, directions for use, etc.

Performance

This hair freshener smells like ordinary perfumes with floral scents but with extra moisture to keep hair soft and smooth while leaving fragrance to it. But! Don't try spraying perfumes on your hair as it can cause dryness or even scalp irritation lol. Okay I admit it, I tried this before--spraying my usual perfume/cologne to the hair--and boy did I not only get dry hair but itchy, flaky scalp too! Stick to those which are really formulated to a specific needs.

I wouldn't say that it does make the appearance of the hair shiny but I love how it adds a bit of moisture to it. A little is all I needed since I have oily scalp too and my hair grease up quite fast especially when I have something on apart from shampoo. So I really appreciate that it does not impart too much moisture quite more than what my hair needs.

The scent smells much better once it gets more and more subtle although I would not agree that the scent is long-lasting. It stays a maximum of one hour on my hair which is not at all bothersome as I could easily reapply and I wouldn't have to worry about repurchasing all over again since a bottle is so affordable at P55!

Overall Thoughts

This product is worth every try. If you are like me who always run errands outdoor or commute to school or work everyday, this product is perfect to give your hair instant fresh scent that lingers! Do let me know if you have tried this already and share your thoughts down below! Happy blogging!

Spotlight On Korean Cult-Favorite Product: Mizon Multi Function Formula Snail Recovery Gel Cream Review

Mizon Multi Function Formula Snail Recovery Gel Cream
Bought from: a Korean online shop
SRP: P250+ for 45ml tube (prices vary)

Here's a review that has long been overdue, guys. I have been using this product for the past weeks and I think it's just right to post my thoughts about this product now. Whether you are or not an avid user of K-beauty products, I am pretty sure you've heard of the popular Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream since a lot of online shops has been selling and featuring this product on their listings. At the same time, beauty enthusiasts are going gaga, all raving about how good this product is. No wonder they are always sold out on some of my favorite shops. You probably seen its pictures somewhere else and it happened to me--prolly what triggered my desire in acquiring one and see what all the hype is about. Please scroll down for the review proper!

Packaging

The product comes in a squeezable tube with a nice combination of white and blush pink design and a screw cap. It also comes in a box which I throw away a long time ago after seeing that it was awfully squashed during the shipping period. Overall, I really like how handy the size of the tube is so I can bring it anywhere I want. However, there's no information written in English so I had a hard time getting the benefits of this product so I relied on ph.althea.kr and here's what it says: This product has multiple skin caring functions that provides:
  1. Smooth skin texture - Mucin in snail secretion helps repair a damage skin thereby creating a smooth skin
  2. In and out protection - In the inside, Centella, Portulaca, and Green Tea Extract prevent skin troubles. In the outside, they block harmful factors.
  3. Wrinkle treatment - Adenosine, which is certified for its wrinkle alleviation effects, makes your skin elastic.
  4. Free from artificial coloring, fragrance and paraben
  5. For all skin types
Written on the back of the tube
Scent, Ease of Application, Texture & Consistency

This product is really fragrance-free which is perfect especially to those who are allergic to fragrances. The gel itself is free from any dyes so it comes in a transparent color and is very easy to apply. Unlike other snail-infused products which are quite thick in consistency, a little bit sticky and is bouncy, Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream is amazingly lightweight, non-sticky and soft to the touch. The gel turns watery once you apply it on your skin and dries as fast. When you have this on, you'll barely feel it's there but you will notice how your skin seems so well-hydrated. Also, it feels very gentle and mild and does not sting. Therefore, I would say that the formulation fits oily and sensitive skin but not those that needs major hydration boost.

What about those with dry skin? For its moisturizing factor that is only quite enough for those with super oily skin like me, I would think that those with dry skin needs more to relieve them of parched pelts. Maybe, they could use this gel as a serum and apply something more moisturizing to really get rid of flaky skin. That's just my opinion though. But it wouldn't hurt to try this!

Performance

Don't you think animal/insects extracts, like Snail Slime, are a bit gross to apply on skin? A lot of people may do but for the sake of beauty, I'll go and try especially after learning all the skin care benefits that comes with snail mucus (famous for their anti-aging, recovery and hydration properties)! They seem to good to be true but whatever, this is now or never. And, oh no. The product looks decent and there's no serious ick factor to it. Just forget the sickly feel of snail goo if you find it gross, just think of how beautiful you can get when you use snail slime-infused product overtime lol.

I have been applying this product twice daily on my face and neck using a pea-sized amount. In my early 20s, I'm already seeing unsightly fine lines on my skin which makes me more particular with anti-aging products. Using this for weeks, I noticed that my skin cleared up a bit and it felt soft and smooth, definitely doing it's primary claim of recovery for past acne scars. It does not make any huge difference in the appearance of my skin (maybe not yet) but the lightweight and oil-free formulation and non-comedogenic factors are just on of the things that seriously matters. I am still getting bumps on my skin every now and then especially on red days, I even changed my skin care routine this October, but so far it keeps up and is doing well!

Overall Thoughts

The whole snail-mucus-on-skin-care-products is amazing and I am going crazy about it and Mizon Multi Function Formula Snail Recovery Gel Cream is just one of the few snail-infused products that really works on the skin! What more can you ask for? It's doing it's job pretty well but remains to be reasonably priced! I definitely would repurchase and this is just highly recommended! Let me know your thoughts about this product down below!
