Trendy Makeup Techniques To Glam Up This 2019!

Start off the New Year on a positive and fun vibe with makeup looks that match your personality and resolutions. Bold and sparkly colors are fail-proof makeup looks that you can try for a more adventurous and glamorous year to come. But if you’re all set on channeling an easygoing and wholesome vibe, you can go for fresh and monochromatic looks this 2019. Let Careline, the Filipina teen's go-to cosmetic brand under Ever Bilena Cosmetics, guide you:

Fresh

Planning for a new makeup routine for everyday look? Go for a fresh and youthful makeup look using Careline’s Multi Sticks (P205). Start by applying the Blur Stick all over the face to keep it smooth and oil-free. This will also ensure that your makeup stays in place the whole day. Hide blemishes and highlight your facial features with the Brighten Stick. Then, with the Contour Stick, draw a line along your temples, the hollows of your cheeks, jawline and sides of the nose. Tap area of contour color with your fingers. Add a pop of color on the cheeks, lips and even eyes with the Rose and Peach Sticks. Complete the look with a healthy glow using the Strobe Stick, applying on the high points of your cheeks, the inner corners of the eyes, eyebrow bone, and bridge of your nose, Cupid’s bow, and chin.

Monochromatic

The monochromatic look involves keeping your eyes, lips, and cheek within the same makeup shades. Perfect for any occasion, this makeup trend is not only easy to wear but also easy to apply. The trick is to choose a color that complements your skin tone like Careline Multi Sticks in Rose and Peach. You can apply it all over your lids, even dab some on your cheeks and use it on your lips. Voila! You’re good to go.

Bold brows and lips

Bold brows and lips will never go out of style. To achieve this look, be sure your eyebrows are well-groomed so it’s easy to fill them in with your preferred eyebrow product. With the brow comb, brush your eyebrow hairs upward then fill in sparse spots with Careline’s Best Brow Liner (P160) in Taupe or Brunette. Complement your look with bold lips using your preferred shades from Careline’s Metallic Lipstick (P210) or Matte Liquid Lipstick (P210).

Smoky eyes, soft lips

Smokey eyes are perfect during special celebrations or a night out with your friends. It’s easily doable by filling in your whole lids with Careline Color Pencil (P65), which has a creamy texture that can be used as an eyebrow and eyeliner pencil. After application, blend it with a flat eye shadow brush. Of course, smoky eyes aren’t complete without a swipe of Go Big! Mascara (P185) on your lashes and dramatic winged-eyes using Careline’s Liquid Eyeliner (P105). Balance it out with any nude shade of lipstick using Careline Kiss Sticks (P180).

Try these easy to-do makeup looks and you’re sure to look party-ready for the coming holidays.

9 Wishes Rice Water Sheet Mask Review

9 Wishes Rice Water Sheet Mask
Bought for: Free | SRP: P1,857 (11 sheets)

I have been on a hiatus the past few days and you're not hearing from me at all even on my social media. 2018 was already ending and I've had a lot on both my plate and mind. What happened the past few weeks were all stressing me out--I felt like I was both physically and emotionally worn out.  I couldn't even find myself to write and all I did was to introspect, retrospect and show myself some self love. I guess you can call it the darkest days of my year. The funny part was I couldn't even tell what was wrong with me or what went totally wrong in my life but it was saddening. It even makes me not look forward to 2019.

Now 2018 has officially ended, I got to pick up my broken pieces and start anew. Funny that I somehow owe my strength to Catriona Gray when she reminds me to be grateful and see situations with a silver lining. I know time will come that I'll look back to that moment in my life and think that bad days will happen so the good days will stand out. I want to share this with all of you. At some point in our lives, we need to be sad too.

Enough of my preaching and let's get back to the highlight of this post. Today, I will be reviewing some sheet masks I won from Style Korean's Try Me Event. Have you heard of the Korean brand, 9 Wishes? It used to be an alien brand to me and thanks to SK we've been introduced! The following blog posts from this on will be about my honest-to-goodness review of their products! Let's start with one--the 9 Wishes Rice Water Sheet Masks.

CLAIMS, INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Advanced brightening and hydration: Innovative rice water sheet mask with an indulgence of rice water, a time honored traditional Korean skin care ingredient delivers exceptional brightening and moisture in a single use, infused with rice extract, rice bran extract , saccharomyces/rice bran ferment, it replenishes the skin's moisture!

PACKAGING

The overall packaging is really neat and informative. Whatever information printed on the box are also written down on the individual packs so in case you let go of it, you will still be reminded of what these masks are for as you can easily skim through the details printed per pack. I love that they made an effort to give an English translation because I can be so lazy looking up product details online. I also appreciate that it's made of a matte, transparent plastic material that gives you an impression on how the essence would look like from the inside. Seriously, 9 wishes made an impression with their packaging.

One box contains eleven (11) sheet masks which retails to P1,857 in Style Korean. That's about *let me just do a quick...no...a long Math here...hehe...* P168 per sheet. It's a little more expensive that other Korean sheet masks but anyway, there are still a lot more pricey ones. For the quality though, I think you're paying a fair amount.

THE MASK CLOTH AND ESSENCE

I really like the quality of the cloth it's made of. It's so soft and it's just comfortable to wear. It's thin so it's breathable yet it does not tear so easily. It also fits on every corner of my face so that's plus point. My face is somewhat oval with really chubby cheeks and sometimes masks are too small or too big to go all crinkled. It's tricky to apply mask sheets on considering my shape face but these ones right here gives a perfect fit.

The essence is cloudy and almost like creamy white in color which is different from other masks I've tried before. All of them are transparent or with a little color to them but this one has really silky, almost thick essence. The silkiness makes the mask slips a little bit so you have to push it back on. It stays put after a few minutes though. I just mentioned that it looks creamier and thicker than other mask sheets I have tried but not to the point that it would make your skin oily. I'll talk more about it later.

The milky white color is probably due to the high amount of rice extract, rice bran extract and rice bran ferment and whatever rice ingredients there is lol. I don't pretend that I am good with ingredient analysis but I'm so glad to see that most, if not all beneficial and moisturizing extracts are on the higher part of the ingredient spectrum. I would say that based on the order, all preservatives are in less concentration.

PERFORMANCE

Okay, here's the overall thoughts. Whenever I use this mask, I'm thinking of all positive things I would say in this review. Now, I'm almost speechless because I honestly love these and would swear by it for the rest of my life. Let me try to talk first before I gush.

You know that I am not a very mask sheet type of person. I regularly do my skincare, basic or more rigorous but applying masks are something I find so inconvenient of a step. This changes when I had 9 Wishes Rice Water Sheet Masks. I feel so sad thinking this is probably one of the the best affordable skincare products that are underrated and it makes me want to talk more about it.

I like how it's very cooling and soothing to the skin when applied and how it just does what it claims and more. I have oily skin but that doesn't mean I don't need anything hydrating. I love the milky essence and how it gets absorbed so well without warming up my skin and makes it produce more oil. It, in fact, balances the skin and give it a life. This is more obvious upon waking up after sleeping with the essence on. It leaves skin radiant and supple.

I noticed how my skin's texture improved with regular use. I've been doing it every other day the past few weeks since I've had this resolution to be more committed to doing proper skincare. Here's the thing, since it has essence more than what you can use in one application, you can still store the remaining essence for a second session or use it as a moisturizer on days your skin needs an instant boost of moisture. This saves me from opening a new pack and it gives me a better value for money too.

Above anything else, this isn't one of those masks that leaves my skin clogged and is breaking out. I would really love to repurchase this and I just hope other local sellers would make it more accessible for us. Buying this as of now can be tricky as it seems like SK's the only retailer that ships straight to the Philippines. So what if they run out of stocks, where to now? Questions about this product? Althea Korea Exclusive: Milk Peel Cream Mask Review

Althea Korea Milk Peel Cream Mask
Bought for: Free | SRP: P490/50ml

I am so happy that Althea Korea keeps growing and I'm being a part of it. I am also grateful to be one of the Althea Angels and preaching about the brand I love and trust when it comes to makeup and skincare. Last month, they released another product I've been so excited to try and finally after a month of use, I'm ready to share what I knew and experienced. My review is coming up in a short while so hold your horses!

CLAIMS

Give your skin a big gulp of hydration with the refreshing peeling powers of Althea's Milk Peel Cream Mask! Containing both AHA and BHA extracts, this gentle but effective exfoliator transforms from a clay to a whipped cream lather, whisking away dead skin cells to prevent flakiness. It’s also formulated with casein protein from milk to revitalize and moisturize the skin. The result is radiantly smooth, healthy skin that's bouncy to the touch!

HOW TO USE

Dampen the skin and apply an even layer onto the skin, massaging till a rich lather forms. Leave on for 30-60 seconds before rinsing away with warm water.

INGREDIENTS

Water (Aqua), Kaolin, Glycerin, Disiloxane, Bentonite, Propanediol, Myristic Acid, Methyl Perfluoroisobutyl Ether, Stearicacid, Methyl Perfluorobutyl Ether, Potassium Hydroxide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Palmitic Acid , Ethylhexylglycerin, Milk Proteinextract, Disodium Edta, Gaultheria Procumbens (Wintergreen) Leaf Extract, Gluconolactone, Glycolic Acid, Titaniumdioxide (Ci 77891), Fragrance (Parfum), Coumarin*, Hexyl Cinnamal*, Citronellol*

PACKAGING

Like most of Althea Korea's product, packaging of this mask is very simple and neat-looking with the white and pastel blue color combination. It's made of sturdy plastic but the pump is somewhat malfunctioning as I've had trouble dispensing the product. I have to press it several times before I get to have a decent amount to use. I would like it better if it comes in a tube-type of container at least I just need to squeeze the product to its bottom rather than pumping it out.

SCENT, TEXTURE AND CONSISTENCY

It smells a little bit like baby powder and despite its powerful ingredients, its scent remains subtle and doesn't smell like harsh chemicals unlike other exfoliating products.

The mask is very rich and is creamy white, almost like mousse in texture and is very easy to blend on the skin. It creates bubbles from the moment you apply it on though not as rich as ELIZAVECCA MILKY PIGGY CARBONATED BUBBLE CLAY MASK which is the only bubble clay mask I've tried aside from Althea's very own. They are both different in texture but both lathers when applied on damp skin.

EASE OF APPLICATION

It's indeed hassle-free to apply and not messy at all. I like that it doesn't sting, rather, it feels soothing and gentle. Unlike other exfoliating products that's painful to use and has the tendency to cause redness, this one does nothing similar. Once applied, it immediately bubbles up and you only need seconds and you're all set. If you are someone who always juggles her time, this is the perfect exfoliating mask for you. Just leave it on for about a minute and then rinse it off. It washes away easily without leaving any white residues on the skin which is pretty usual for a product with rich whipped cream bubble texture.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

Being an exfoliating mask, it contains ingredients that are tested and trusted such as AHA (removes dead skin cells on the surface of the skin), BHA (removes impurities and unclogs the pores) and Milk (moisturizes and refreshes the skin). All of these works to give skin a smooth texture and clarity. With regular use (approx. 2-3 times weekly), I noticed that my skin has cleared up. Scars and blemishes started to lighten as well as the overall complexion. It brings out the skin's natural glow and I have no questions about that. I've used AHA and BHA infused products before and they just truly deliver.

I can't help but notice that this product has Kaolin Clay and I love it for the fact that it controls oil effectively. Every time I am using this product, I'm not gonna lie but my skin feels a little taut after rinsing and I know it's because of the clay. Since it has a large percentage in the overall formulation, it's able to soak up excessive oil in my skin. The tightness is a bit discomforting but nothing a good moisturizer can't fix. Good thing, this product has milk, at least the dryness caused is reduced. I've tried other masks with Kaolin Clay like the MARIO BADESCU DRYING MASK and boy, that's  even dehydrating but it works!

So would I recommend Althea Korea Milk Peel Cream Mask? Absolutely! This is one of the most gentle micro peeling masks I have tried that clears up the skin and keeps it radiant. This step doesn't take too much of your time but rest assured, your skin has been taken care of. It's affordable for a 50ml bottle wherein a little amount would go a long way. You can buy it from ph.althea.kr and use the code PBSHIP to get free shipping!

Snail White Namu Facial Jelly Wash Review

Snail White Namu Facial Jelly Wash
Bought for: P295/100ml
Bought from: The SM Store

I've always been curious with Snail White and it started when Kris Aquino herself raved about its soap and her video went viral. I tried the SNAIL WHITE WHIPP SOAP then later on decided to try the facial wash in the hope of getting a fairer, clearer complexion. I am not into using bars for my face as the best option for me would be those in liquid forms so I'm glad I got this Snail White Namu Facial Jelly Wash which I'll be reviewing in a short while.

CLAIMS

A gentle clarifying facial wash perfect for everyday use. Enriched with natural extracts like Opuntia Ficus-indica. Its unique jelly texture forms the perfect lather and refreshes your skin for a healthy skin. This facial wash thoroughly cleanses the skin and removes excess oil and impurities and it also unclogs pores without over-drying skin.

PACKAGING

It comes in a typical tube type of packaging that is very easy to use and bring anywhere I like. Information like claims, ingredients and expiry date are printed in clear form. It's also completely wrapped in plastic and aluminum seal so you're assured of its hygienic use. Genuine Snail White products has the authenticity seal attached to the body so if you don't see that, you're probable lured into buying a counterfeit product.

SCENT, TEXTURE AND CONSISTENCY

It comes in a clear gel-type formulation and it lathers so well when applied to the skin. It has a really playful texture that's soft and bouncy and it reminds of the gel you put onto the hair, like literally. Scent is subtle, nothing strong or off-putting. This facial wash is very easy to rinse of and doesn't leave a slimy texture.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

It claims to have Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract which sounds alien to me. I did a quick research about it and I've found out that it's a firming and hydrating ingredient and is also rich in other Vitamins A-C that's mainly used for anti-aging and cell-protecting products. I appreciate that it thoroughly cleanses the skin but I have to say that it's a bit drying on the skin. It's the product  working to tighten the pores but I'm not really into tightening ingredients as it felt drying and uncomfortable. It makes me want to lather heavy moisturizer afterwards and then at midday, my skin would look like a grease ball. So nope, not hydrating at all.

What I like about this product is that it effectively brightens the overall complexion instantly and gets rids of impurities from the skin. It wasn't able to lighten my scars or blemishes significantly after a month but for a cleanser, it does its job well as part of the basic skincare.

I recommend this to anyone who's finding a safe facial wash that deeply cleanses the skin without the sting. I did not break out from using this product so that is already safe to say it's suitable for my oily skin. I don't think I'm going to repurchase any sooner though as I still have a lot of facial wash waiting in my stash and there's more affordable products in the market that does the same job.

Purbasari Lulur Mandi Bengkoang Whitening Body Scrub Review

Purbasari Lulur Mandi Bengkoang Whitening Body Scrub
Bought for: P85/125g
Bought from: The SM Store

I am such an avid user of cream-based body scrubs. I make sure I never run out because commuting makes my skin rough, clogged and dirty all the time and body scrubs are effective in smoothing away all impurities and restoring bright and soft skin. Recently, Shopee gave out P200 worth of voucher for every P500 purchase made through The SM Store official shop so I shopped some goodies that I know I'll be using. Purbasari Lulur Mandi Bengkoang Whitening Body Scrub is one of those I carted.

CLAIMS

Step up your routine and incorporate this shower scrub once a week. It sloughs away dead skin cells to regenerate new ones, leaving your skin smooth, healthy and glowing. It contains Bengkoang as natural lightening. Bengkoang contain lots of water content, so it will provide benefits for consumption. Vitamin C in yam will make the skin healthier. May prevent premature aging and look brighter. Combination of yam bean extract and whitening extracts for a fairer and healthier skin.

PACKAGING

Scrub is housed in a plastic tub packaging and has all necessary information like claims, and ingredients as well as the expiration date which is printed on the bottom part. The packaging is very simple and this is what I expect from cream-based body scrubs as you can easily scoop up a generous amount to apply to the body. I hope it comes in a smaller packaging as it's not even full to the brim and yet it's bulky.

SCENT, TEXTURE AND CONSISTENCY

The product has a clean scent which isn't bothersome at all. It has a creamy texture to it and is infused with fine synthetic scrubs. I am trying to refrain myself from using synthetic scrubs as they pollute the water system and it makes me feel heartless for doing so but I guess every once in a while, I have to. I like that the scrubs are fine and non-scratchy but are abrasive enough to slough away dead skin cells and rough patches on the skin. It has a smooth consistency that blends easily when applied. One thing I noticed though is that you have to apply a generous amount on your body so you can exfoliate well which is why I think it's not as cost-efficient as when you opt for salt scrubs. One jar lasted me only about five uses which isn't bad at all considering that I only use it once a week.

PERFORMANCE

I like how this scrub is able to smoothen and brighten the skin in just one use. You don't have to use it often to satisfy yourself with the result. Every time I use this, my lotion gets absorbed more easily and my skin just feel like baby's butt. The addition of Bengkoang Extract (turnip) is a lovely touch because it's known for its whitening benefits but a few uses won't make a huge difference and we all know that. I didn't get a tone lighter by just consuming one tub but having radiant, healthy skin is already enough for me.

This scrub doesn't feel tightening nor drying, thanks for being cream-based. If you are looking for an affordable and effective body scrub to deep-clean the skin and get rid of scaly layers, I recommend you try this Purbasari Lulur Mandi Bengkoang Whitening Body Scrub. The cream's very consistent and the texture will pamper your skin even while you're just at home. Let me know what you think of this product by commenting down below! Happy blogging!

Lily's Touch Miracle Cream Version 2.0 Review

Lily's Touch Miracle Cream Version 2.0
Bought for: P250 | SRP: P450
Bought from: an online shop

Lily's Touch has been famous for their best-selling miracle cream. I remember I've heard about it from Michelle Dy a few years back and eventually decided to buy one for myself to try. I've blogged about it way back February of 2017 and the experience wasn't really life-changing (click HERE for the full review). Big word, right? I've tried a few creams that made it to my holy grail but the original version honestly did not. It's pretty basic, none of those adverse reactions, yet I found nothing so special about it. When Lily's Touch came up with a Miracle Cream Version 2.0, I decided to get one together with the MIRACLE NIGHT CREAM with the hope of finally getting the reason why people are loving it.

CLAIMS

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

PACKAGING

I find that the tub it is quite bulky which isn't really good for traveling. I like the overall packaging especially the orange and white color combination as it looks neat. All necessary information are printed in clear and crisp font style. I have to say that the packaging is somehow unique and hygienic because you can find the spatula on the bottom instead of being on top, usually found on the inner seal. Once opened, you will see the product right there and you have to completely remove the inner tub to get the spatula which is cool. I'm thinking of recycling the tub once emptied.

The shape and cut of the spatula is very useful to scoop up product as close to the bottle as possible.

TEXTURE, CONSISTENCY AND EASE OF APPLICATION

If I remember it correctly, the texture and consistency of this cream is similar to the old version. It's opaque white in color and has a whip-like texture and the scent is both pleasant. The 2.0 has a subtle floral fragrance that gradually goes away.

During application, you have to be careful how much you put on because it yields a strong white cast considering it has SPF 30. It tends to give a grayish effect on the skin so you have to be mindful of how much to use. It is one of those creams wherein blending could be a challenge. I am also having issues with layering makeup on top as the cream tends to pile up and it makes the base cake and move around. Using it on its own would be the best option.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

This cream is completely different from the original version of Miracle Cream as the version 2.0 is infused with Stem Cell (for glowing skin) and has exfoliating effects. It also has Sunflower Oil and OMC to protect skin from UV rays and to moisturize it. Checking the ingredient list, it has Vitamin C that brightens the skin and aids in exfoliation without peeling. It also comes in two scents--Cucumber and Nectarine--wherein I opted for the latter.

The cream is lightweight and has a minimal dewy effect. I like that it does not break me out nor clog my skin and I appreciate the added anti-aging and exfoliating benefits but just like the original formula, it does nothing so significant after 4 weeks of use. It brightens the skin and adds glow to it after application though it goes away on midday. If you have dry skin, the cream will settle on dry patches and emphasize it so make sure you use a heavy moisturizer prior. Whenever I'm using it, despite its lightness, my skin seems to oil up real fast and I am not really fond of any product that does that.

If you are looking for a hypoallergenic and safe anti-aging face cream, you can still give Miracle Cream Version 2 a try. It just does not work as I expected and I think it's slightly over-priced. I'm happy I spotted it for a sale price, otherwise, I'm not gonna buy. I'm not really satisfied with the miracle creams of Lily's Touch but that doesn't stop me from trying out other products from their skincare line. I just hope they improve on the cream's consistency so application won't be of a hassle. I think this will be a good maintenance cream if they would just consider revamping the formulation. I also hope they come up with more exfoliating products and if you haven't tried their DIAMOND POLISH yet, you should!
