My Current Chickenpox Remedy: Serafica Aloe Vera Soothing Gel

Serafica Aloe Vera Soothing Gel
Bought for: Free | SRP: Around P225
From: Serafica Philippines

A few months ago, Ms. Jyka, the owner of Serafica PH, sent me some goodies together with this Aloe Vera Soothing Gel. This is what I'm currently using right now to soothe all the post scars and scabs that were resulted from recent chickenpox infection I had. I can't really get over the fact that I had to deal with more terrible skin problems now that I'm in my early 20s but I somehow got to do something than nothing at all, right? I researched online what are the best remedies and one of the best solutions is Aloe Vera Extract which reminds me of my very own bottle from Serafica. I stopped using it when I developed the rashes and it's good to be back on the game!

Ingredients

Deionized Water, AloeVera Juice, Glycerin, Collagen, D. Panthenol, Phenoxyethanol

Serafica Aloe Vera Soothing Gel comes in a pump type of packaging, indeed very hygienic. It's the one that goes all the way up so you know when you are almost running out.

This product claims to soothe, prevents aging, moisturizes, treats acne and sunburns and is an anti-inflammatory. We must already have heard from our ancestors what Aloe Vera can do to our skin so this isn't something new to us. If I am going to look at the ingredients closely, it's composed of only a few chemicals compared to other AV gels that has approximately 90-99.9% AV extracts yet with a bunch of chemicals we probably haven't heard of yet. And quite intriguingly, this product has Collagen on it which isn't present on any other AV gels I've known.

Serafica Aloe Vera Soothing Gel comes in the usual gel-type formula that barely smells anything and is more lightweight and  is non-sticky compared to most AV gels I have tried. It could be because this is not a concentrated AV Extract considering it has Glycerin and Collagen on it for added benefits. I prefer this one though rather than purchasing the pure Aloe Vera for the very simple fact that I can get something more from trying it.

What I noticed though is that this burns the eye, so you might want to refrain applying it to areas near it. I love that it is very hydrating without the stickiness and it refreshes my skin. Now that I have been recovering from chickenpox, this has a greater use for me as it eases itchiness and maintains soft and smooth complexion. I will continue using it to alleviate redness and hasten the healing process.

Now, this is a great product that works for me. But here's the catch...it's quite more expensive compared to other AV gels in the market considering it only has 30ml of product inside (other ranges from 100ml to 250ml I think) and I think Serafica PH would hardly beat other competitors because of its price. But what I can tell you is that this isn't just Aloe Vera, it has a couple other ingredients that is known to be beneficial on the skin too.

Have you tried Serafica Aloe Vera Soothing Gel already? What are the AV gels you've tried that works for you?

And it comes with free shipping too!

Coastal Scents Brushes Review + Best and Worst Brushes

While pleasuring in some cola-flavored lollies, I've decided to make some good use of my time by posting this review. I, in fact, was super excited to write this because what I previously said in my Coastal Scents Haul post was something I'd like to spit out. Emphasis on was because this post is something that's long been overdue and again...forgetfulness is why. Anyway, I always believed that I'd like these brushes and now I don't know why I even jumped to that conclusion before when I haven't even known them for a long time. Moral of the lesson: it really takes some time before you get to know something.

There are two types to choose from: synthetic and natural bristles. That's something nice about Coastal Scents Brushes, they came with both counterparts so you have the option which type to get depends on where and how you will use your brush. Ideally, synthetic ones are for liquid makeups and natural ones are best use for packing on powder pigments. Makeup brushes don't work unless you make them work though. It just boils down to one's preference. I won't start by telling you what you probably know already but if ever you need information about how synthetic differs from natural hair, here is an article I'm always checking out though I am not affiliated with.

Now I've thought about it, I'll just review the brushes in general and then I'll tell you how I use each of them.

Coastal Scents Brushes In General

Size difference
Right: Coastal Scents Classic Buffer | Left: Zoeva Buffer Brush

The brushes came with the usual plastics and though the brand's name is printed on the handle, it lacks the name of the brushes. It makes me come up with my own names all of a sudden lol. If you are someone who is a first timer in the world of brushes, like me, it's quite hard to distinguish which one is for what purpose. Also, the face brushes are really big, in fact, bigger than other brands which makes them lessen the work and effort but doesn't make them any travel-friendly because of the size of the brushes. That's one that I would like to share.

Another thing is that I'm quite lucky that I bought them at sale prices because I think they are overpriced for the overall quality. Take this for example, their Classic Buffer Brush which I bought for $4.95 is originally priced at $14.95-$19.95. I'm pretty sure we ain't talking about Sigma here. But yeah, I compared all the prices of the brushes and this is one of their most expensive brushes. I have nothing against the brush particularly (this is my favorite among everything) but the brush arrived in not so good condition. The ferrule was shaking and I was trying to do vlogging when the head separated itself from the handle, literally. That was how flimsy it was made. I had to inconveniently go to the nearest store to buy a freakin mighty bond to connect both parts. Thankfully, it doesn't move anymore and it's the only thing I had that issue on, of all brushes, why does it have to be my favorite.

The brushes with natural hairs which pretty much comprises most of my purchases, by the way, have soft bristles but they tend to prick when smoothed all over the skin. I hate using my face brushes to apply anything vast on my skin because of this matter. One more thing, they shed like big time the more I wash them and they stink! They are dense enough to absorb makeup but they somehow became frizzy when dried and they tend to lose their shape overtime. This is the problem with most brushes with natural hairs and I wish I got the synthetic ones instead.

The Brushes In Details

Classic Buffer Brush Large Synthetic - This is my favorite. It's somehow a duo-fiber brush that I use to buff away foundation and it just does its job nicely. It tends to look a bit sticky when used with watery/serum foundations so I had to resort to the use of a sponge to make sure there aren't any streaky lines.

Classic Stippling Brush - Probably one of my least favorite. I use stippling brushes  and I even like the idea of stippling technique but I just can't gauge whatever use this has for me. The brush is flared out on top excessively and it's just way too large for my face. I prefer if this would be a bit stiffer and smaller to at least give a more precise application.

Kabuki Brush on a Stick - Also one of my least favorite. Bristles are too rough and pierces the skin.

Classic Foundation Concealer Brush Extra Large SyntheticI am not really a fan of taklon bristles for foundation brushes but I like it for concealing spots. It's very easy to use and easy to wash.

Classic Angled Powder Brush Natural, Classic Blush Angle Brush Large Synthetic, Classic Large Powder Brush Natural, Classic Flat Buffer Brush Natural, Classic Flat Powder Brush Natural, Classic Medium Tapered Powder Brush Natural These are the brushes I was thrilled to use at first. They are so dense and soft to the touch but just like most face brushes from Coastal Scents, I find them too harsh on the skin and they stink (natural hairs that's why!). Still, they get the job done as they pack up really nice amount of powder products on the skin which is still great.

Classic Round Duo Fiber Brush Synthetic - This duo-fiber brush is too small as opposed to the classic stippling one and I think it's useless. I tried using it as a highlighting brush which somehow work but since it's not intended for that and not really ideal for that purpose, I don't think I'll ever get my hands on it the next time.

Classic SuperBuki Brush Synthetic - This brush is soft and smooth but is TOO large and I'm not exaggerating when I say it is. I would love applying my setting powder with this but I just find it too overwhelming. It ended up lying somewhere in the corner of my stash.

Classic Angled Liner Brush Large Natural, Classic Angled Liner Brush Medium Synthetic, Classic Angled Liner Brush Synthetic, Classic Angled Liner Brush Small Synthetic - The first one is made of natural hair while the rest of the four eyeliner brushes I bought were made of synthetic, like taklon, bristles. They are firm enough to create precise lines but they aren't the thinnest type that I prefer like that of Zoeva's. Still, I love eye liner brushes because they are so multi-functional--can be used for both eyes and brows.

Classic Shadow Brush Small, Classic Shadow Brush Medium Natural, Classic Shadow Dome Brush Natural, Classic Shade and Flush Brush Medium Natural, Classic Blender Brush Natural, Classic Blender Crease Brush Synthetic, Pro Blending Fluff Brush, Classic Detail Mini Brush Synthetic, Classic Detail Round Brush Natural - I like the whole eye brushes collection of Coastal Scents. They blend eyeshadows nicely though I lack some like pencil brushes. I didn't know they are very essential until lately when I started having interest with them. These brushes are made of the same quality hair that are soft and fluffy but they don't pierce the eyes. If I am going to purchase more brushes from CS, I think I'd pick up a few of their eye brushes. They get rid of streaky, harsh colors and make colors pop some more.

I guess, we have the winners--Coastal Scents Eye Brushes and definitely the Classic Buffer Brush Large Synthetic! Overall, I didn't really enjoy much of CS Brushes but since now I got a few picks, it doesn't seem too bad at all. They still do have brush sets which, let's see if we can try some time! Have you tried these brushes? Any thoughts?

Tony Moly Delight Tony Tint Review

Tony Moly Delight Tony Tint, 8.3 ml
Bought for: Free | SRP: P160-above
From: Althea Philippines

Everyone knows I love using lip tints more frequently than lipsticks. Sure, it's fun choosing over which shade of lippy to sport each day but I find lip tints more comfortable to wear and is more mistake-proof. You can use a red shade in combination of almost any eye shadows or blushes without looking that you blind-chosen a shade.

Tony Moly Delight Tony Tint comes in three available shades: Cherry Pink, Red and Orange Chacha. I don't think the pink and orange suit my yellowish skin so I opted for the perfect red. It's the typical shade of red that I can wear for any occasion without going a little overboard. It's also the red that I can build up depends on how I want it to appear on the lips--whether I want it subtle or bold.

Claims
Finally, a stain that stays put on your lips! This lightweight, super pigmented formula goes on your lips with a fruit scented sheen, and dries quickly for a sheer, matte finish that won’t budge all day. You can easily build on the color by adding layers of this non-drip formula, which moisturizes lips with a nourishing combination of Rosehip, Argan, and Jojoba oil.
Shades Available

Cherry Pink, Red, Orange Cha Cha

The product comes in a plastic packaging with the usual slim doe-foot applicator that easily distributes the product on the lips. You can tell that the tint has a jelly-like consistency, very soft and pretty much anything you can think of jellies hehe. It does not have a water-like consistency that tends to run and fade overtime. It smells like fruits which I really adore. I don't think anyone would find it off-putting unless you abhor fruity scents.

One swipe can give you an instant pop of vibrancy and two layers can give you a patchy (you know what you expect with tints) yet very strong shade of red on the lips. It does not dry out right away so you have the time to blend it evenly. Whether you want a gradient, natural or bolder lips, you can easily sport it with this tint.

True enough, its longevity is above average. It can last about all day with minimal fading when you eat and drink light meals alone but might need some retouch if you go a little overboard. What I don't like about it is the fact that it's too drying, like most tints, so you might want to treat your lips to some hydration before you pack it on. It stings broken capillaries so watch out!

Overall, this is a good product and a good value for money too! This is one of the best tints I have tried in terms of longevity but one of the worst in terms of drying out the skin. I guess you can't just have the best in everything. Not yet. Do let me know if you have tried it already! Until next!

Cosrx One Step Original Clear Pads Review

CosRx One Step Original Clear Pad
Bought for: P650 | SRP: P650-above
Bought from: an online shop

How's your holiday so far? Mine's always like this--sitting in front of my computer, blabbling some useless stuff and to make it worse, I'm sick and internet sucks. You kinda have to bear it with me because my mind got stuck somewhere else (I'm itching to get to a Mac kiosk lol) but believe me, I'm sane enough to tell you what I think of the famous CosRx One Step Pimple Clear Pad. Spoiler alert: I didn't like it very much.

I haven't used any peeling pad yet other than the underarm peeling pad I got from Althea Philippines way, way back and the pads look very much the same but are soaked with totally different solutions of course. They are not something to compare with for they are for different purposes so let's just forget about what I said and stick with my CosRx. Woah, do they rhyme? They do, right?

The reason I got this thing right here is because of all the rave reviews I read and even most of the bloggers whom I knew and been following for a long time, said that it is quite something. When I saved enough money, I gave it a go and without further ado, let's start!

Claims
Oil and excess sebum control just got easier. The award-winning COSRX One Step Original Clear Pads are pre-soaked in betaine salicylate and willow bark water to chemically exfoliate without drying out your skin. Active ingredients penetrate deeply into pores to dissolve oil and dead skin cells, which help in controlling breakouts. Not only are they good for the face but also recommended for blemishes on the chest and back.

Packaging

It is housed in an animated packaging which is I kind of like. The tub has 70 pads inside which makes it a better value than what I think is Cosrx's greatest opponent, the one from Neogen with only 40 pads. The only thing is the tub is quite spacious and bulky which I kind of hesitate to bring to overnight or travel. But think of it, Hanna, you rarely travels. In fact, you only travel with Adrian. Oh, right! I'm just concerned about your size preference? That doesn't sound right.

Anyway, let me just share a tip if you would like to save more. The pads are really soaking wet that you can even use a clean scissors to divide a pad into two, use the other one for the whole face and keep the other one for later.

Scent

I don't know why but I kept on thinking it somehow smells like cola with a bit of citrus. I love it and I don't think anyone would find it off-putting unless of course you don't like the scent of colas.

Texture of The Pads

You are supposed to use the pads in two ways. The pads has double sides--the other one is softer-looking and the other side looks a bit more textured with bigger circles. It is instructed to use the textured one to slough off dead skin cells on the skin and the soft side to remove them completely if there's any. To be honest, I think the idea is ridiculous. I can't even distinguish which side I'm using when I'm actually using them on the face. They feel quite the same so I don't bother sparing a moment to think about which side to use first. Oh good gracious, just smoothe it and get over with.

Performance

I use the product twice a day, in the morning and before I sleep. I would say that it does not dry easily on the skin and felt a bit sticky and tacky, the reason why I even agreed dividing a pad into two. The solution is just overwhelming and too moisturizing for me and since they don't dry fast, I have to wait for approximately 10 minutes before I proceed with my next skin care. I mean if you don't mind that, then you could go on. But I personally prefer low maintenance and convenient skin care and this product failed to tick that off.

If you are looking for something so moisturizing, this product is for you. Those with drier skin may love this because it's gentle enough, it does not sting and gives skin good moisture.

This product claims to exfoliate the skin and as we all know, exfoliation means better absorption of the next skin care step, but it doesn't feel that way at all. This product claims that it can also be used on the chest and back but I didn't get to that part 'cause there's no need to. My breakouts, even whiteheads and blackheads were not reduced, my skin doesn't look brightened at all. To be honest, I didn't see much improvement on my skin during the time that I had this in my skin care. I'm not saying that this won't work for you, I don't criticize the people who said this product worked for them but as much as I want this to work for me, it just won't. At the end, it just boils down to what is suitable for your skin type and what your skin prefers.

Do let me know down below if CosRx One Step Pimple Clear Pad works for you! Or not? Anything under the sun! Happy holidays, everyone!

Must Try Budget-Friendly Restaurant When You Are In Makati: Hongkong Noodles and Dimsum House

I don't really do very much of food blogging but it's quite a refresher from what I usually do. I've been meaning to do this for quite a long time ever since I tried this food chain along the streets of Chino Roces Avenue in Makati. I just love them and I'm always going back for their Lechon Macau which happen to be their bestseller too!

Celine, a friend and a co-worker, was the one who introduced me to Hongkong Noodles and Dimsum House. She said that their food were nice and affordable and that they are open 24 hours. I considered her suggestions and from then on, it became a place where we chill out and tell stories over a plate of Lechon Macau and Yangchow Fried Rice. In times when I'm alone and would want to destress by eating food, it has been a go-to for me.

Just recently, Adrian went home from Spain and I had to bring him to this place. As usual, I ordered my favorite Lechon Macau and he got some squid menu which we forgot the name of (so I did a bit of a research and find out it was Salt and Pepper Squid.) Lechon Macau (around P130) is mainly oven-baked pork belly and Salt and Pepper Squid (around P130) are deep fried squid fillets breaded in salt-pepper batter and both are served with delicious Yangchow Rice.

They do have rice toppings, noodle menus, desserts and another favorite of mine is their Century Egg! I can't really fathom why but there's something about their food that makes me wanna go back to--they are just so tasty and delicious, not to mention, affordable! Their staff are all warm and welcoming too.

Hongkong Noodles and Dimsum House is located at 2113 Chino Roces Ave., Makati. Currently, there are additional 4 branches located in Pasig, Meycauayan, Manila and Quezon City.

Gulta-C With Kojic Plus Whitening System Acne Control Toner Review

Gluta-C Kojic Plus Whitening System Acne Control Toner
Bought from: Free | SRP: P109.75/100ml
Bought from: Sampleroom

This product has long been overdue because curse my forgetfulness that's why. I wasn't feeling very well the past few days too because I've been infected with chickenpox very unfortunately. But on a lighter note, I'm excused for the next two weeks, I got my reasons and medical certificate ready and all, so I got plenty of time to blog during times like this where I feel like I can manage. You just won't be able to see swatches, well, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to see swatches haha!

Anyway, without further ado, here's a quick review on a product I've bought from Sample Room weeks ago. I've tried this product for a span of a month so I'm quite confident how it performed and I'm going to tell you exactly what are the things that it does and it doesn't on my skin.

Claims
Gluta-C Kojic Plus+ Toner is an alcohol-free toner that performs 4x skin whitening action with the combined power of Glutathione, Vitamin C, Kojic Acid, and Azelaoyl Diglycinate for a more holistic skin whitening regimen. It has anti-bacterial properties that fight acne and breakouts; visibly reduce the appearance of pores, and; remove excess oils, dirt, and impurities without drying or irritating the skin for that soft, smooth, and refreshed skin.

Packaging

First thing, the product comes in a cloudy, almost transparent plastic bottle that is sturdy and does not feel cheap at all. You can clearly witness what is going on inside--whether it's the color of the liquid or if it's running out. It has this flip cap that tightly closes with a click. I appreciate that the product has all necessary information displayed for avid readers like me such as claims, ingredients, directions for use, expiry days and all.

Texture, Scent and Ease of Application

The product is clear and liquidy and smells like what I think is the trademark scent of Gluta-C products which is a bit citrusy and nice. It gets absorb easily by the skin and leaves a hint of dewiness. The toner does not feel tacky or heavy at all and it's moisturizing despite the whitening claim which I think made it suitable even for those with dry skin. It doesn't sting the skin at all and I like that about it.

Performance

Despite all the good stuff this product possesses, I just think of it as an average toner. I don't mean that this toner should now cease to exist but there are really a lot better drugstore toners out in the market, price point is around the same. It could leave a nicer impression on me had the claims be truer.

Let me tackle one by one. First of, even after using this product for a month, I didn't see any noticeable whitening on my skin though my skin looks a bit clearer after use. The cotton swab with toner that I use soaks up any remaining dirt on my skin which fails to remove by my cleanser. So it now ticks off one of its claim which is the cleansing ability.

Definitely, this product did not help with my oil production and didn't help reduce my acne breakouts either. To be fair, it doesn't flare them up anyway. Still, I've tried a toner before, quite more expensive, but works a lot better. This product claims to minimize pores which is hella not true. To be fair again, nothing, to date, works to reduce my pore size at all. And last but not the least, this product claims to smoothen the skin which, okay, it does but not so exceptionally smooth that I would reconsider.

Have you tried Gulta-C With Kojic Plus Whitening System Acne Control Toner already? Share your thoughts down below!

Avoid Cakey Makeup With Dear Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish

Dear Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish
Bought for: P750 | SRP: USD $23 (Around P1200)
Bought from: an online shop

I've had this obsession with scrubs ever since and shouldn't it advertised to be used only at least once or a couple of times every week, I could have given in to the pleasure of scrubbing away dead skin cells on a daily basis. The beads feels so refreshing and smoothing that I can't help noticing how skin's overall texture improves every after use. And with that saying, I have here a tub of goodness which I'm going to talk about today, Dear Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish.

This is the very first product I have tried from Klairs and it made me look forward to trying out more of their products. This didn't exactly give me that perfectly polished skin as assumed because of the name, but I just love how my skin feels super soft, hydrated and clear every time I use this. It makes everything I put on gets absorb easily.

We know for a fact that this sugar polish used to come in a tub with only 60g of product inside and was renewed early 2017. You don't have to use a lot every application but for a product with quite an expensive price tag for budget beauties, it would be nicer to pay for a bit of quantity too. It seems like Klairs heard us after all!

The texture and quality of the scrub made me reminiscent about my D-I-Y sugar scrub--I might do a step-by-step procedure with it and share that with you. I remember using black sugar mixed with some oils and honey for my scrub and it doubles its function as a mask too. The resulting product is quite creamy and the hydration properties of natural oils and fresh honey is really powerful. However, I don't have the whole time in the world, so convenience means a lot. Good thing, I've got this Dear Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish for that fuss-free exfoliation whenever I need it.

Claims
The Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish contains an abundance of black sugar which aids in the removal of dead skin cells and blackheads. It exfoliates dry skin with ease and adds a glossy smooth look to the skin. When seasons change, the skin tends to become a uneven with dry patches that cause makeup to apply unevenly and look “cakey”. Using the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish once a week gives you smooth soft skin perfect for makeup application.
See even better results by using the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish with the Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil.

Packaging

Dear Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish comes in a dark-colored plastic tub with a twist cap, an inner seal and a plastic spatula for hygienic purposes. I love it for it looks very high-end too. The tub and the accompanying box displays all necessary information such as directions, claims and benefits, ingredients and expiry dates. For an eco and vegan-friendly, natural product, it has an amazing shelf life of 3 years.

Texture, Consistency and Ease of Application

The product is dark brown in color--something you expect with sugar scrubs. It has an abundance of black sugar with a combination of emollients that doesn't feel harsh at all and melt on the skin a few seconds after application. The thing with scrubs containing synthetic beads is that they don't melt so we sometimes tend to over-scrub and we know that it's pretty dangerous for the skin as it can cause further damage. Well, too much of something for any aspect isn't good, right?

I love everything about this product's texture--it melts like soft butter on the skin and the melted product seem to double like mask. I usually don't rinse the product yet because I find that the oils it contains hydrate my skin and make it super silky, soft and smooth.

The product has a wee bit of a cooling scent. The scent is not something I really love but it's subtle enough that I don't think those who are sensitive  to scents will find it off-putting in any way.

Performance

I really love this product as it lives up to its promises. The buttery texture removes tough makeups further and all other imperfections such as flaky skin and roughness. After use, your skin really looks clearer and smoother--you  have to fight the urge to touch your skin frequently. It doesn't remove existing blackheads but it helps smoothen out their appearance and prevent further damages on the skin. It is very clear that this product removes dead skin cells effectively as my skin seem to drank straight whatever I put on it.

This product is very mild and non-abrasive so it suits every skin type whether you have dry, combination, oily or sensitive skin. It might be a high maintenance product for me but I don't mind splurging a bit as it made it to my holy grail scrubs!

Spring Sale Is Here!

Unfortunately, I have chickenpox right now which I don't think I'm supposed to be telling everyone but my life will become very boring and useless for the next few weeks because I can't go out, I can't go to work and I hardly can even blog because the internet's even slower than a snail. Good thing, there's something I can still do--online retail shopping!

Spring just came and sale is now everywhere. I'm both stewing and feeling so stoked right now--well, stewing a bit because I'm getting zero salary next cut-off, in short, I'm broke and filled with excitement at the same time because I'm having the chance to get some cult-faves on a discounted price!

Just a quick rundown, here are my favorite participating brands among the few.

For affordable yet efficient makeups, some are even underrated, Elf Cosmetics is one of the top favorites! I just bought 15 items--some of them are, (you won't believe it but they are...) as low as $0.40!

Ulta's definitely one of the famous retailers of probably any makeup piece you can think of. Just imagine how hard it would be to shop for 21 days, figuring out which ones to get among the massive collections!

Mac rarely go on sale so if they do, you know it's time to stock up. Their items are selling out pretty fast so I'll probably place an order now. I'm picking up their foundations!

I'll shop around for more sales and let you know! Happy blogging!
