Last year, sometime in November, Althea Korea had a daebak deal wherein you can get two (2) products for the price of one. I got myself some Touch In Sol No Poreblem Primers and a couple of Pyunkang Yul products. This is going to be the first time I'm trying out something from the brand so you can only imagine the feeling of excitement rushing through my blood. I had high expectations because at that time, Pyunkang Yul is very popular and I always see their products on my Instagram feed. So I guess you're wondering how did it go with Pyunkang Yul Cleansing Foam? Keep on reading after the short break!

CLAIMS

A gentle foam made with Ledebouriella Seseloides Extract which according to a quick search is an extract known for its therapeutic properties. It's used for the treatment of itchy skin and reduction of skin inflammation. It also has Glyceryl Caprylate to refine skin texture. Aside from that, as a medicinal based formula, it controls oil production and unclogs pores, leaving skin fresh and revitalized. Infused with 16 kinds of main ingredients verified by US Environmental Working Group (EWG), it is perfect to use for all skin types.

This cleanser delivers deep cleansing with a rich lather; clears out dirt and oil trapped in pores; leaves skin feeling clean and fresh without drying, and lightly moisturizes without compromising your skin’s equilibrium.

PACKAGING

Pyunkang Yul is one of the brands that promotes minimalism in terms of packaging. As you can tell, it's all white aside, of course, from the fonts used to display information such as claims, ingredients, directions for use, etc. Both the cardboard and the tube is matte and clean-looking, it even appears very clinical to me. The size of the tube is quite deceiving. It could probably carry up to 200ml amount of cleanser but it only has 150ml inside. I hope they made it smaller so it would be more convenient to bring to travels. I like tube packaging but given the runny formula, I think it would be more appropriate to use a pump. Every time I push the cap open, product would immediately slide down so I can hardly control the amount to dispense. It's messy and wasteful at the same time.

APPLICATION

You can use it like how you usually cleanse your skin or do the mask technique. Yes, apply the product on dry skin like a mask, let it sit for about a minute or two before you finally mix it with lukewarm water. Apply in gentle circular strokes and rinse!

SCENT

It has a subtle herbal scent that won't irritate sensitive noses. I don't think it has much fragrance which is good because they can be skin irritants too.

TEXTURE, CONSISTENCY AND EASE OF APPLICATION

As what I've mentioned, Pyunkang Yul Cleansing Foam has a runny consistency with a soft, elastic texture. I'm not sure if this cleanser has very tiny grains because it's kinda rough at first and it's weird because it's not marketed as a scrub cleanser. I find it very unique and fun to use though. It also lathers richly even when using a very small amount. It's safe to say that a 150 ml bottle will last you a loooooong time. Despite the foamy formula, it's easy to rinse off with water without leaving any slimy residue, just a thoroughly cleansed skin.

PERFORMANCE

This cleanser really promotes clean skin and it seems to penetrate to the pores to absorb excess oil and dirt for a deep-cleanse and purification. However, I had to say that it's extremely drying. I have oily skin so I can have high tolerance for drying cleansers. However, I still feel like this cleanser strips the skin's natural moisture, leaving skin squeaky clean. I kind of expect this with foamy formula but I just can't get used to it. I don't like stripping cleansers that gives matte, tight feeling because my skin would compensate by producing more oils which I don't really approve of.

I've read short reviews and comments about this product on shopping sites and most of them claimed that this product is hydrating but no, it's not the same for me. I also think that the price is unreasonable for a basic cleanser like this. I've tried other cleansers that are far better than Pyunkang Yul Cleansing Foam for a cheaper price.

So would I repurchase? I don't think so. I still prefer non-stripping cleansers especially the gel ones. However, if you are looking for a mild, non-sting cleanser that's also cruelty-free and formulated with organic ingredients, you can try this. Last October (my birthday month), I made an ALTHEA KOREA HAUL with the birthday points they credited me as one of the Althea Angels. I picked up some stuff which I haven't tried yet and will be useful for my skincare. Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Scrub is the very first item I did a test run with so you could say this is way past its due date. I have been using it for more than a month now and let's get into the details of what it's done for me.

CLAIMS

Beauty experts always recommend to exfoliate at least once a week, to rid your skin of dead cells and promote the rejuvenation of new ones. The Jeju Volcanic Pore Scrub Foam is an exfoliator and cleanser rolled into one, and works by removing excess dirt and dead skin cells off your face, leaving you with skin that is healthily radiant and moisturized. Its special formulation of Jeju volcanic clusters and red clay work effectively to absorb sebum, yet is gentle enough to be used every day.

PACKAGING

Product comes in a matte beige squeezable tube which is what I prefer for skincare items because of hygiene reasons and travel-friendly nature. I appreciate that it has all necessary information like benefits, directions for use, ingredients, caution and expiry date. The mouth is also sealed with aluminum upon purchase so that ensures you that the product inside is of top quality. It's one of the things I love about Althea Korea, all the items I've purchased since day 1 are all fresh stocks and arrived in good condition.

SCENT, TEXTURE AND EASE OF APPLICATION

The product has a creamy, slightly rough texture because of the scrub beads. I am not so sure what it's made of but since they are blackish brown in color and checking through the ingredient list, it might have been volcanic clusters. It feels slightly rough when applied but it feels really good. The scrubs aren't dense enough that it scrapes the skin, rather, they seem to break down in smaller pieces before they finally melt with the foam cleanser. This cleanser lathers so rich but not a pain to wash off. It also reeks of a clean scent which I like.

PERFORMANCE

I've always trusted Innisfree's skincare products as ingredients are carefully sourced and are natural. They also seem to focus on targeting a specific concern with every skin care line they produce.  There's the very popular Green Tea line and more and then there's the Jeju Volcanic where Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Scrub Foam belongs. The main ingredient is the Jeju Volcanic Ash Extract which has powerful purifying properties that draw out dirt and sebum from the pores. I've been using products with clay on it just for the fact that I have oily skin and I needed something to absorb excess oil and un-clog my pores. Aside from this, it also has Fermented Satsuma Extract which has anti-aging properties and helps to remove dead skin cells and Green Tea Extract that keeps skin hydrated all throughout the day. We all know for a fact that these ingredients has so much more to do than what's written.

 

I used to apply this foam cleanser once every day to twice-thrice a week. It's supposed to be the other way around, right? What happened? Though I like how it leaves my skin squeaky clean and refreshed, I find this cleanser to be drying. It totally strips my skin off its natural moisture which is why I needed a heavy duty moisturizer afterwards. It seems like it is working to absorb excess sebum on my skin and removes bumps and whiteheads effectively but as a result, my skin makes up for the loss of moisture by secreting more oil. The dryness is somehow uncomfortable which is why I limit usage to twice a week. This works well for me. I use it on those days I want to detoxify and when I badly need something to clear up rough areas and dullness and also whenever my skin seems like it's about to develop pimples. This cleanser just dry them out before they even become ripe bumps.

I guess this product's main selling point is the fact that it's a cleanser and a scrub in one. This saves you time and makes two skincare steps to just one which is the reason I probably would repurchase. Given that I find it drying considering that I have oily skin, I don't think those who have drier and more sensitive skin types will find it suitable for daily use.

In my brief trip to Watsons a few weeks ago, I spotted these new skin care products from EB Cosmetics. It's no stranger to me that they also mass-producing beauty items apart from their wide array of affordable makeups, but these really caught my attention. Their names look familiar? Very iWhite Korea lol. I'm pretty sure that's what pops into your heads as well, no? Aside from that fact, they also come in cute bright sachets, no wonder your eyes will lay easily on them while your looking through shelves of alike products.

PACKAGING

I really can't help but admire the chicness of their packaging especially the one that comes in pink color. I personally don't like bright shades but here I am right now, drooling over the cutesy of their designs. They don't come in tubes of bottles as of late (correct me if I'm wrong), so you have to be careful when you bring this anywhere you go as actions may squeeze the products out and create a mess on your bag. However, those who are in tight budgets like me and those who want to try out samples first before buying full sized products, them coming in sachets is very helpful then, don't you agree?

EB Cosmetics Korea Facial Foam Cleanser

This product is transparent white in shade, has a subtle floral fragrance and foams richly once applied on skin. You don't have to squeeze out a lot because a little of it goes a long way already. Unlike other foam cleansers which seem firm and thick, this one has thinner consistency and is smooth on the touch. I am not really a fan of foam cleanser (most of them caused me to severely break out), but this one feels more gentle on skin and did not break me out once. Also, I did not experienced the sudden breakouts I usually am having because of the transition from previous skincare to new ones. What I advise you to do is slowly incorporate new products on your trusted ones to avoid irritating the skin.

Claims and Ingredients

This product claims to purify skin, remove oil and makeup residue while maintaining your skin's natural moisture. I would say it lives up to its promise of deep cleansing the skin because every time I use a cotton with cleanser or toner on it, dirt and oil seem to be less and less noticeable. However, it fails on its claim to maintain skin's natural moisture for its drying on skin. I expect it to be since all foam cleanser I have tried tightens and dry out my skin big time.

EB Cosmetics Korea Aqua Moisturizing Cream

The formula of Aqua Moisturizing Cream is similar to that of iWhite Korea Aqua Moisturizing Cream--very lightweight as it only feels like applying water (with a teeny bit of moisture) on your skin. iWhite Korea's more tinted and looks like droplets of water once blended though and EB Cosmetic's sheerer. Both easily blends on the skin and dries fast as well without leaving skin looking oily. Overtime though, my skin feels a little bit greasy once my natural oils start to blend with the product so I have to either blot or douse some powder onto it. I kind of expect it because I have super oily skin.

This product does all its claim and I can vouch for that. Since the facial foam cleanser is a bit drying on the skin, I can't help but reach for a reliable moisturizer that will effectively and sufficiently moisturizes the skin without the heavy feeling oily skinned girls dreaded. Good thing, I have this Aqua Moisturizing Cream that instantly hydrates the skin, gets rid of tautness and makes skin soft and smooth. Using this with other EB Cosmetic products did cause me any adverse reactions.

EB Cosmetics Korea Instant Whitening Cream

This product is a creamy white, sort of whipped cream textured moisturizer that instantly brightens out skin tone. Be careful not to apply too much as it creates strong white cast due to titanium dioxide, a known ingredient for sunscreen products or those that are SPF-based. Although it does not say exactly that this cream has an SPF protection on it, I presume it protects skin even a tiny bit from sun exposure due to this ingredient. And now that I say this, I wish EB Cosmetics would improve on their product descriptions.

This product did not break me out even though it feels warm on the skin -- due to its thicker formulation than the Aqua Moisturizing Cream. Although this product delivers moisture and make skin look smooth and supple, I still prefer lighter creams.

Moreover, this product is not a good base under foundation for it makes it and even powders look cake-y and the white cast is a bit of a turn-off. You know that I don't like putting heavy coverage on my skin 'cause I like it looking naturally fresh. On lazy days (which is pretty much every day), I prefer putting Aqua Moisturizing Cream and this alone and would layer it with a transparent powder. I was shocked 'cause my skin looked patchy and dry because of extreme white cast. I even looked ghostly pale! It's either you put only a small amount and make sure to blend it evenly using a powder brush instead of your hands (avoid this!!!) to avoid clumping and such. Also, I hate that this cream clings on pores and dry patches of the skin on the first few hours so whenever I sweat , the cream kinds of float on my skin. As a result, I have to check myself in the mirror every now and then to make sure it stays on place.

Here is a close up picture using all three products. I have to only use a very small amount of Instant Whitening Cream all the time because it feels a little greasy for my preference. My skin looks dewy and more even toned. All it takes is a bit of powder and you're good to go! Fresh skin lang ang peg lol.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

I do like these products. I can't tell which is my first pick. Is it the Facial Foam Cleanser or the Aqua Moisturizing Cream? I can't decide! But definitely the Instant Whitening Cream is on my least favorite just because I find it a little bit harder to blend than the other one. Before I leave you to ponder with these whether on not you should try, here's some pieces of advise. Apply only a small amount of the products on your skin. They go a long way already. You probably might not like it if you apply too much foam because it is drying and too much creams results to greasiness. I recommend both Aqua Moisturizing and Instant Whitening Cream to everyone--whether you have dry or oily skin--just put in sufficient amount and do not overdo. These products are also made up of lots of natural ingredients and plant extracts which makes skin healthy and youthful!

Pond's Acne Clear Facial Foam Review

None too long ago, I swore not to buy any products from Pond's skin care line because most of the time they do not work on me, worse case scenario is the breaking out part. However, I am always easily swayed by advertisements and rave reviews without instilling on my mind that not everything that works for other people will also work for me.

Anyway, as I was checking out my mail box, I received subscription mail from Sampleroom that I can get free shipping if I buy their featured Pond's products. Turned out, Pond's Acne Clear Facial Foam is included in the list. What awful thing could it give me as it was for free? I could simply give this to friends or throw it away if I feel like it. Roll a few weeks, even being skeptical about the idea, I tried the product so I can review it here.

CLAIMS

Formulated with the world's first Active Thymo-T Essence, Pond's Acne Clear uses unique Lock + Clear Technology that works in 3 days to eliminate acne at the root, for smooth clear skin.

RECOMMENDED USE

Wet your face. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of facial wash on your hand and lather with water. Massage and on face and rinse thoroughly. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with water immediately. Store away from direct sunlight and heat.

INGREDIENTS

PACKAGING

The product is housed in an easy squeeze tube with a cap that shuts tight with a click. As usual, I like this type of container as it easily dispenses products and is super convenient to use. The size of the 50g tube is small enough to bring during travel. Overall, the packaging is so simple but looks really clean and promising.

APPLICATION

To see the effects, at first, I decided to give this a try for a week. If nothing awful happens, I would continue for more weeks. I thought one week is already long enough to notice significant effects as this product claims to dry pimples up in a span of just three days. So, how long did it really take me before I stopped using? 10 days. I followed the direction even used it together with the Acne Clear Leave-On Anti Acne twice a day for faster results. I also focus on problematic areas by massaging the product into those areas for a few more times than the rest of my face.

SCENT

If my senses are not mistaken, this product smells like its corresponding leave-on gel which smells herbal for me. Just like most of Pond's products, this is heavily-fragranced so its scent, correct me if I am wrong, may be off-putting to some.

TEXTURE / CONSISTENCY / EASE OF APPLICATION

The product has the consistency of almost any foaming wash in the market--white in color, a little thick in consistency and easy to massage on skin. You have to dilute it in water to lather into a foamy texture. A pea-size amount is enough to clean the whole face.

EXPERIENCE / RESULTS

During the first three days, my skin reacts like how it usually do whenever I try products for the first time. I got tiny pimples from my lower cheeks up to my jaw area as well as on my forehead. I continued using in the hope of getting rid of these just how I always do if I am really hiyang to a product. Few days passed and they started to reduce in sizes but then, another set of breakouts kept coming back and the cycle goes on. 10 days maybe too short so it really pains me that I got several breakouts in super short period of time. In 10 days of trying this product, I did not get rid of my pimples.

On a lighter note, this product really removes dirt and oil on the skin as it leaves my face squeaky clean. It also controls oil for a few more hours and I notice that I don't get super shiny all day and that I had to blot excess oils fewer times than before. However, I find the formula a little drying on my skin though a lot of reviews claim that this product is non-drying.

WOULD I REPURCHASE?

No because it did nothing more than cleanse my dirty face and prevents oil. Since I am pimple and acne-prone, I am really aiming for those products who really and effectively target existing and prevent future breakouts. Nonetheless, a tube is affordable so you might want to give this a try. It may not work for me but it may work for you, who knows?

Review: The Face Shop Herb Day 365 Cleansing Foam in Lemon

One of the products I hoard from The Face Shop' Sale last week was this Herb Day 365 Cleansing Foam in Lemon. (You can read my The Face Shop Purchases here by the way.) When it comes to my desire in achieving a brightened skin tone, I always go for lemon-based products. Why? Because lemon is know for eliminating dead skin cells with the benefit of whitening your skin, thus, creating an illusion of brightened skin tone during continuous use. This has been long-proved by Science ever since and we all know that, right? >:)

I was really eager to use it that I ditch my previous soap and switched to it instead without any say. This is the very first product that I use which is a non-drugstore one, didn't I tell you that already? So yeah, after more than a week use, guess, it's now the proper time to share with you, guys, what I think about it...

Herb Day 365 Cleansing Foam in Lemon at PHP265 (50%off)

I'm not actually a fan of foaming cleansers ever since my previous cleanser from other brand did not work well on me. But this hoarder in me just started to kick off so yeah, I ended up buying it instead! I bought not just one, but twice! Hey, it's not my fault that I'm really into skin care products. Hahah! Anyway, I'm going to post a separate review for the Acerola variant soon.

I like that it comes in a tube dispenser, my favorite packaging for skin care products. Its simple layout is what made it look like those products sold for thousand bucks. It simply has a lemon at the bottom part which somehow looks very straight to the point, like 'Hey, I contain some lemon. Buy me now!' This is what made it more appealing to me, I guess, as I'm very observant with packaging and such. Sorry for that. Hoho!

It has aluminum cover so the product won't easily spill out of the tube.

As it comes in a huge tube dispenser, it also comes with a lot of product on it (170ml) for, say, less than $3 and it could be use for a long period of time, since you'll only need a dime and it would lather pretty much already. Plus, you can bring it any time, any where to freshen up and you don't have to worry as the product wont leak in your travel bags.

It has expiration date printed on the upper closing of the tube.

Although, the formula mainly contains lemon, it also has other active ingredients on it like Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut Bark Extract), Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract Alchemilla Vulgaris Extract, and Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract--which I believe contribute to the product's skin benefits.

As you can see, being an original Korean product, most of the description are written in different language, so it's really great that they have sort of  'subtitles' below.

Formulated with lemon extract, this mild cleansing foam helps remove dead skin cells and leaves skin fresh. Although it lives up to its promises, it fails to satisfy my expectations. How? Yes, it does freshen up my skin, but not for a long time. My face tends to get oily by minutes and reading one of lemon's benefit to reduce oil build up, it does not do the trick on my skin. As it remove dead skin cells, it does not dry up my pimples which I hope can be lessened somehow since lemon is known as a great help for pimple-prone skin. But come to think of it, I should expect this for the spearmint variant. Haha!

Also, it tends to be a bit drying for my skin, the feeling which I don't really like upon washing my face. It reminds me of Pond's facial foam, although not as drying. But hey, it's still drying after all! However, it does not cause me breakouts like the previous foam did, which is a good thing. The bad thing, though, is that it does not prevent acne/pimples. Ironic that the product is intended for use on any skin types, yet I think it best suits sensitive (as the product is really mild) and normal skin as it somehow is drying (so it's not for dry skin) and definitely does nothing for oily skin type (so it's also not for oily skin).

Verdict: Using this actually makes me think, how does the Acerola variant differ from it? Nonetheless, the product, being mild and all, I believe, won't do my skin any harm as The Face Shop is probably one of the best brands which uses organic ingredients. I may still continue to use it, but I do not ever promise to stick to it as I'm looking for other products that would do my skin great results. But remember, what may not work for me, may work for you as we all have different skin types and needs. Try it and see for yourself! It might be the best product in your life!
