The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer Review

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer
Bought for: P300 | SRP: $7.90
Bought from: an online shop

Many swear by the products of The Ordinary, a Canadian brand from Deciem, and it pretty much became a norm in the skincare routine of beauty enthusiasts. The brand is quite intriguing and it makes me want to try all of their products at once. So I have already purchased the Serum and Coverage Foundations and because I found out they also have primer in their makeup lineup, I can't help but buy one for myself. So for today, what I will be talking about is The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer. Before I purchase this, I seek the opinions of other bloggers and most of them have negative, if not neutral, feedback about this product. Spoiler alert: indeed, I got mixed emotions with this.

Claims

This formula uses advanced adaptive silicones to act as a matte, hydrating, blurring primer for makeup that looks higher in definition and adheres for longer. The formula can also be used alone as a non-greasy hydrator that reduces the looks of pores and of imperfections.

Ingredients

Aqua (Water), Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Bis-Isobutyl PPG-20 Crosspolymer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Isohexadecane, Hexamethyldisiloxane, Isoceteth-20, Polysilicone-11, Tocopherol, Polysorbate 60, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

Directions

Use as the last step in skincare regimen either on its own or as a makeup primer. I usually apply it all over my face in thin layer 'cause I pretty much oil up everywhere but focusing more on my T-zone. That's where makeup fades easily.

Packaging

Comes in a tube packaging with a very minimal design (pretty much standard in most The Ordinary products), I find it convenient to bring anywhere I go. I just keep on having troubles dispensing the product since the tube is quite large for the amount of the product inside. The first time I try using this, it's as if I'm pumping out air. The flip cap is helpful for good hygiene as it shuts tightly.

Texture, Consistency and Ease of Application

Feel soft and balmy in texture, this primer is opaque white in color and glides smoothly on the skin. It doesn't have any off-putting scent, in fact, you can barely smell anything from it. The skin absorbs the product with no problem at all but unlike other silicone-y primers I have tried before, this one seems to be the longest to settle and the hardest to get absorb. I don't think I'm over-applying though. Most of the time, I'm using less than the amount you can see on the picture down below.

I'm pretty sure not everyone is a fan of silicone primers (a lot says that it clogs their pores and does not suit certain skincare) but I currently prefer it better than those illuminating ones. They do have that velvet-y feel, they seem to fill pores and most, if not all, are mattifying. I have tried a couple samples of illuminating primers from high-end brands and the promised glow just does not fit my oily skin.

Performance

One thing I noticed is that this product isn't just a primer. True enough, it hydrates the skin and subtly blurs imperfections so this is one of the silicone-based primers that, I would say, could really stand alone. Whether you put it alone or underneath makeup, it does something for the skin. If you prefer a silicone-based primer that really mattifies the skin, this isn't for you. I could still see some dewiness  on my skin even though I had this on and it does not control oil as well. But since this has nice hydrating properties, it would suit even those with dry skin.

Just like most primer, it's supposed to lengthen the wear time of your makeup base. This product gives that smooth canvas for better makeup application, however, I don't think it does something to make my foundation last longer than it's supposed to. Also, I notice that it works better with foundations that gives off a matte finish than those that are illuminating. For example, I tried this primer with The Ordinary Serum Foundation and it made it look cake-y and I oil up fairly quick.

Overall Thoughts

I can't help but compare this with other silicone-based products I love using as primers like the one from Quick FX and Maybelline just because I'm obsessed with anything mattifying. The latter ones are actually more affordable and I can see better effects. Although I appreciate the fact that The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer is cruelty-free and is affordable, I don't think I'll ever purchase another tube once I ran out. It does not make much difference on my makeup and I have better options in the lineups.

Let me know if you experience the same or if you know better application for this. I'll wait for your comments! Happy blogging!
