I have been obsessing over gentle cleansers these past few months and here's one of the few cleansers I use in conjunction with DermAid Acne Oil Control Facial Cleanser. The reason why I got this is because I have been hearing a bunch of good reviews about it. I also needed a really gentle cleanser (gentle enough for baby use) that works at par with my favorite Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. I am aware that there are a lot of posted blogs about this particular product, but I still want to share what I think of it. I hate to spoil you, girls, but to be honest, I wasn't hooked with this cleanser at all. I have some points to raise about it and if you are interested, please keep on reading after the break!

Packaging

Product comes in a sturdy plastic bottle and also has an accompanying pump depends on how you would like it to be dispensed. This touch is very thoughtful of the brand. I also appreciate that it displays a lot of information about the product such as its brief history, claims, ingredient list, expiration and manufacturing dates, directions for use, etc.

Claims

Designed to work gently to cleanse dry, sensitive skin effectively; for dry and sensitive skin; mild and gentle soap-free cleanser; appropriate for frequent use with or without water. It is formulated to leave skin feeling clean and soft; hypoallergenic, pH-balanced

Directions For Use

• Use without water: Apply a liberal amount of cleanser to the skin and rub gently. Remove excess with a cotton pad.
• Use with water: Apply cleanser to the skin and rub gently. Rinse.

 

The ingredients are quite few and almost similar to Cetaphil's but I am still surprised to know that it has alcohol, parabens and also a bit of fragrance for something that's hypoallergenic. Though I am pretty much aware of what they do to the skin and health, I still don't mind using them as some of the ones I've tried were really effective.

Scent, Texture and Consistency

Physiogel Hypoallergenic Daily Moisture Therapy Dermo-Cleanser comes in a pearly white color that looks cloudy and a bit runny in consistency. It smells fresh and clean, nothing so off-putting about it.

Performance

Here's the story. I started using this product a couple of months ago, right after I received it in the mail. I had bad case of whiteheads and pus-filled tiny pimples and I needed a gentle product to soothe and calm my skin. The first time I use this, I felt a slight tingling sensation on my skin. This is clearly far from what I am expecting for something that's supposed to be mild and hypoallergenic. I thought that maybe this is just an initial reaction from using something unfamiliar. It's tolerable though. I gave it another try the next day and it still felt the same. My skin never got used to it and up until now, I still experience mild stinging whenever I use this product especially when I have broken skin (from accidentally popped pimples or scraped skin). I wouldn't consider this as a very gentle cleanser.

I know that this is soap-free and is intended for dry and sensitive skin and I really do appreciate the fact that it's really hydrating and softening but I couldn't get used to non-lathering cleansers. I hate to compare it to Cetaphil's but even if the latter isn't foamy either, you can definitely tell that your skin is really cleansed deep down. It's just my personal preference but I don't like the feeling of getting the same skin texture even after you've cleansed it. No matter how much of this cleanser I use or how many times I wash my face, I still feel like my skin is still oily as it was and isn't totally gunk-free. I can tell because whenever I tone my face, I still get traces of dirt and makeup on the cotton pad. I have super oily skin, I commute from North to South everyday, and I definitely need a better cleanser than this.

Physiogel Hypoallergenic Daily Moisture Therapy Dermo-Cleanser clearly does not suit my skin and it doesn't help calm my breakouts. It seem to aggravate them even more in fact. There are a lot more affordable gentle cleansers in the market that are more effective for those who have oily, acne-prone skin like mine.
