Huxley Secret of Sahara Scrub Mask in Sweet Therapy Review

Huxley Secret of Sahara Scrub Mask in Sweet Therapy (deluxe size)
Bought for: P180 (30g) | SRP: P1,350 (120g)
Bought from: an online shop

When I rummaged through my stash, I figured out I have too many Korean beauty products. Why not? They are so trendy and popular and there seems to be over hundreds of new K-beauty brands. Though I honestly have few picks I adore, I need to grow and get new experiences by trying out something new from Huxley--another Korean brand which is probably around and operating for years now but being the late bloomer I am, I just heard of them about a couple of months ago.

I got the chance to try a deluxe size when I was looking for something to add to my cart so that I can avail the free shipping option during one of my quick visit to Shopee. Turns out it was at 20% off so I thought, it's not much of a big deal and after all, it would be cool to write about it.

CLAIMS (AS PER HUXLEY)

A purifying scrub mask made with naturally derived ingredients, Huxley Sweet Therapy Scrub Mask easily sloughs off impurities without drying out skin. Packed with Sahara’s prickly pear cactus extract, which is full of skin-benefiting antioxidants, vitamin E and linoleic acid, Mask warms up on skin during application, creating a gentle heat that reduces swelling and helps draw out impurities. Sucrose and walnut shell powder aid the removal of dead skin cells and other impurities while luffa helps sealing in moisture. Great for all skin types, especially those concerned with excess sebum production and clogged pores. Made without parabens, synthetic dyes or mineral oils.
 INGREDIENTS

Glycerin, Sucrose, PEG-32, Polyglyceryl-10 Behenate/Eicosadioate, Diglycerin, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Seed Oil, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Shell Powder, Luffa Cylindrica Fruit, Chromium Oxide Greens, Silica, Water, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

After cleansing, spread a thin layer onto wet skin. Massage using circular motions avoiding the eye area. Rinse with lukewarm water. Follow with toner, serum and moisturizer.

PACKAGING

To be honest, I really appreciate the simplicity of  the packaging design of all Huxley's products. They are very minimalist yet clean-looking. It comes with an easy to squeeze tube making it perfect for quick getaways. One thing I didn't like about it is that it lacks any information about the product itself. Turns out, I needed to search online for the specifics.

SCENT, TEXTURE AND EASE OF APPLICATION

This scrub has a clean-smelling scent, like that of soap--nothing bothersome or off-putting. It has a rich and thick consistency and has a very abrasive texture. From the looks of it, it has that sharp green herbal-like granules and other than that, I think it has either salt or granulated sugar in the mixture too so you can only imagine how rough it felt on the skin. Correct me on salt/sugar ingredients though if I'm wrong. The product rinses off easily without leaving any greasy or shiny residue.

PERFORMANCE

I'm actually impressed the first time I squeeze some products on my palm. It's very thick and rich in texture and I though it will remain that way all throughout. I noticed that it will only last about a few seconds because once you apply it on the skin, it seems to melt easily and then gradually loses its richness. It becomes watery and the salt melts away too. This scrub gives a warming sensation on the skin and it felt weird to be honest, but nothing painful nor irritating.

Just like what I have mentioned, I find this scrub too abrasive for face use. I don't have sensitive skin but I feel like the sharp edges of the scrubs are just too much. If I am going to continue using it, it gives me the idea that it might damage the skin.

This product claims to be suitable for any skin type. However, I still would think you do a patch test first, or test the abrasiveness on some part of your skin prior to taking a plunge. See if you can handle the texture.

The 30g tube is enough to last me about 10-15 usage. I have to consume everything because I hate to think that I have wasted my money and there's just a few amount to use. I am glad that it did not break me out but I noticed my skin oils up even more severely probably due to too much exfoliation. It's neither hydrating nor softening too. Probably just a tiny bit.

I am glad I did not splurge for a big size and I don't even think it should cost that much (ranging P1,000-1,500). I have other exfoliators I trust like the Dear Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish and Onsaemeein Yogurt Peeling Gel. So nope, never gonna repurchase.
