Laneige Essential Power Skin Refiner Light Review

I've been a fan of Laneige ever since their ever-so famous Special Care Water Sleeping Mask landed in my vanity. It was something I kept reaching out for to soothe my tired, stressed skin and it helps me with skin healing too (from Chickenpox). I also use it whenever I feel like my skin’s acting up and I couldn’t remember a time it disappoints. With just a product, I started to consider Laneige as one of those luxury Korean brand I trust. I even made sure that whenever I had the time and budget to shop in Althea Korea, I cart an item or two from this brand so I can slowly try everything from their beauty line. Each variant may cost me an arm and a leg, but I have this premonition that every dime I’ll spend is going to be worth it.

A couple of months back, I ran out of toner and so when I rummaged through my stash, I found that I still have this Laneige Skin Refiner Light. I am not the type to use toner alternately as it makes me hard to gauge which one is working and which one is not so you can expect that my skincare is always not very complex. Everything that I will be sharing with you today is my experience with this toner for more or less two months.

CLAIMS

The refreshing-type toner tidies up shiny skin by effectively providing moisture to skin fast with its ingredient of hydro-ion mineral water. Refreshing moisture care for skin that looks shiny and dull outside and feels dry inside. Light type to make skin moisturized inside and matte outside.

The moisturizing-type toner in semi-transparent, milky viscous texture gently moisturizes dry, flaky skin. Laneige hydro-ion mineral water effectively provides moisturizing energy to skin fast. Its ingredient of vitamin B3 derivative, which promotes skin turnover, makes skin moisturized inside and matte outside while effectively removing dead skin cells.

INGREDIENTS

Purified Water, Glycereth-26, Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Glycogen, Glutamic Acid, Lysine HCL, Magnesium Sulfate, Mannitol, Manganese Sulfate, Opuntia coccinellifera Fruit Extract, Beta-Glucan, Betaine, Serine, Sucrose, Citrulline, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Alanine, Arginine, Betula Alba Juice, Zinc Sulfate, Calcium Chloride, Chenopodium quinoa Seed Extract, Threonine, Panthenol, PCA, Histidine HCl, Glycerin, Bis-PEG-18Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Phenyl Trimethicone, Propanediol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Aromatics

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Use at the skincare stage in the morning and at night. Soak a cotton pad with an appropriate amount. Apply on the face along skin’s texture, starting from the inside and working outward, in a gentle wiping-off motion.

I usually soak cotton pads with this refiner and let them sit on my skin until all product is absorbed. I also use it as skin by layering the product until I reached the desired moisture. I do this whenever I feel like not putting any moisturizer on top and whenever my skin feels extra dry. I don’t mind going over it quicker than usual because it comes in a 200ml bottle that lasts for a long time.

PACKAGING

As always, Laneige markets their products in very minimal but luxurious containers. The white and blue cardboard box displays very limited information about the product so I kind of not appreciate it. The ocean blue sturdy plastic bottle looks very photogenic and I like the blue and transparent twist cap. It adds greatly to the overall aesthetic of the product. I appreciate that it comes with a booklet inside and it contains information about the product and the proper way to use it.

I also found out that Laneige does not produce a for-all product. Each variant is being made strictly for a particular skin type. Say for example this toner. It is a skin refiner in light variant which formulation is intended for those with oily skin. There are skin refiners that are exclusively for those with excessively dry, normal to dry and sensitive skin. You don’t have to constantly make your skin fit to something that is not suitable for you.

CONSISTENCY AND EASE OF APPLICATION

It has a watery consistency and has a very subtle clean floral scent. It penetrates the skin quickly and does not leave any greasy, oily layer. I like that I can layer any product on top without any problem of creasing or caking.

PERFORMANCE

This product does what it claims: hydrates skin inside without the overtly heavy moisture outside. I like that it feels refreshing and how it seems to soften the skin overtime. I have super oily skin but because of I over-exfoliated before (use of peeling creams and stuff), my skin sort of became unpredictable. It feels tight and dry especially after cleansing but it produces oil non-stop. My skin always craves hydration and I noticed that it just became much more balanced and calmed when I started using Laneige Essential Power Skin Refiner. It supplies lightweight hydration without irritating my skin which is why I think this is a good addition to basic skincare.

I can’t wait to try more products from Laneige! Let me know what your personal picks from this brand are! Happy blogging!
