I'm not really into buying household stuff but adulting means getting a new perspective. Now, I care more especially when we are almost running out of supplements or bath products because for  a working daughter like me, I can no longer ask my parents to buy stuff for myself whenever I want to just like before. Good thing, I can rely on Sample Room for products I didn't know I'll ever be needing. So I just went ahead and purchase these for free with my points.

Althea Korea's New Color Makeups in A Limited Hanbok Box

I am so happy to share the good new--Althea's just come up with color makeups! We've all loved their affordable skin care exclusives and so now be prepared for more exciting new releases. I just received the items and it comes in a limited edition Hanbok box and Althea Korea stickers in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Sharing this new skincare product too that's included in the haul--Althea Korea Skin Relief Spot Film Gel. I've tried it two days ago and sure it works! Also, not too long ago, I received an eye shadow palette as part of Althea's Christmas and New Year Gift to Angels. This is not an Althea Exclusives but colors are really nice and warm too so you can recreate different eye looks whether it's for a daily use or just occasionally.

What To Love About Face Republic | Haul and First Impression

I remember encountering Face Republic products on a popular e-commerce site. They are everywhere and what made me itchy to try their products is the fact that their products are within my budget range. What makes them unique, for me, is the fact they they sell their products in sample packs/sachets so consumers can get a good impression first before committing to buy the full-size ones. Not all Korean beauty brand comes up with this option.

A little about Face Republic though (thanks to Calyxta), it's actually a local brand that was conceptualized here in the Philippines but products are manufactured from Korea. So is it not awesome to indulge in Korean skincare that are exclusively made to be suitable for Filipina skin types? Enough of the introduction and let's get on to our first impression review with their skin care and makeup products!

FACE REPUBLIC GOLD MINERAL CLEANSER

SACHET: P23 (5ML) | FULL-SIZE: P399 (100ML)

This is a foaming cleanser that has exfoliating red beads I'm not really sure what's made of. They melt once you massage the cleanser on the skin. Despite the foamy lather, this cleanser is not at all drying but is able to leave skin squeaky clean. I can still see some dewiness on my skin afterwards unlike other cleansers that leave skin looking flat matte. The scent is soapy and I have no problem with that. The gold on it seems to brighten the skin, makes it vibrant and at the same time, keeps oil at bay.

A little of the product goes a long way so a sachet will definitely last you probably a week or so. It rivals the whitening cream which is by far, my most favorite among all the Face Republic products I have tried.

FACE REPUBLIC CRYSTAL GLOW WHITENING CREAM

SACHET: P26 (2ML) | FULL-SIZE: P499 (30ML)

So here goes what I am just talking about before the short breaks. After trying out these products, I know it in my heart that I'll be bias when talking about which Face Republic product is the best. This Crystal Glow Whitening Cream has the formulation I am looking for in a day cream--luxurious and light. I love it from the first use.

The cream is opaque white in color and has a very light, whipped-like texture. It' feels so good to apply on the skin and blends well without the dreaded white cast. I love the fact that it instantly hydrates and brighten the skin all the while revealing a glass-like complexion.

Using it for about two weeks (consumed two sachets), my skin did not break out or got irritated. I think I need to use it for more weeks to notice whether it's able to lighten the skin permanently.

FACE REPUBLIC SUPER SCREEN SUN GEL SPF 50+

SACHET: P20 (2ML) | FULL-SIZE: P499 (50ML)

This is probably the third in my list. I appreciate the fact that it's loaded with a whopping amount sun protection that is more than decent enough for daily use. Face Republic Super Screen Sun Gel is a very lightweight gel-type sunblock that is also very easy to blend without the white cast. I just don't think I can use it together with the Crystal Glow Whitening Cream as it makes prior skincare patchy and flaky. It's best to be used on its own and during the days when you don't want to apply makeup and is just running a quick errand outdoors.

The formula is a bit inconsistent but I like that it's lightweight on the skin and doesn't reek of usual sunscreen scent. I just don't think I can comfortably use it with any other products as it makes my skin oily faster than usual. Use it on its own to enjoy further its antibacterial benefit with the Eucalyptus Leaf Extract.

FACE REPUBLIC PERFECT COVER BB CREAM

SACHET: P29 (1.5ML) | FULL-SIZE: P599 (40ML)

This is probably my least favorite. This is a face perfecting balm that claims to provide a natural-looking coverage but I have some issues both with its formulation and shade. As you can tell from the swatch below, it has a very creamy consistency which I probably would like had not because of the strong pink undertone. Those who have yellow skin tones may find it awkward to use as it would tend to give a grayish, ghostly finish. Not really a believer of its tone adapting technology as I had tried it three times and I just had to stop using because it does not really matches my skin tone. I would consider it if Face Republic would come up with a shade that has a yellow undertone.

On the other hand, I appreciate the natural coverage and the fresh, healthy glow it gives. It provides both coverage and skincare benefits with Arbutin and Adenosine known to brighten and improve skin texture.

Here's a quick review on a sheet mask I've been loving lately--Simple Skincare Kind To Skin De-Stress Sheet Mask that's included in my recent Sample Room haul. If you would like to know why, please keep on reading!

CLAIMS

The perfect antidote to your stressed-city skin! Infused with Aloe and skin-loving multi-vitamins, the mask’s light and super soft natural fibers replenish active nutrients right into the skin to instantly soothe and help brighten tired skin with no messy application. No artificial perfumes, colour, and no harsh chemicals that can upset your skin. No baddies, just the goodies for your sensitive skin!

HOW TO USE

Since this is just the usual sheet mask, I am pretty sure you all know the drill. After cleansing, carefully unfold it and apply to the skin for how long you wish for. In my case, I usually let it stay on my skin until the fibers are almost dry. This way, I'm both making sure that all the nutrients will be fully absorbed, all the while getting the value for my money. You can use the remaining essence to moisturize the dry pelts anywhere in your body or pour them to the sheet directly to further moisten it.

INGREDIENTS

THE MASK SHEET AND ESSENCE

The mask sheet is made of thin and super soft natural fibers so it is indeed very comfortable and breathable to the skin. The cloth is very delicate so you have to make sure to carefully place it so it won't tear. One thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't fit very well to the contours of my face but if you have a slightly bigger areas to cover, this will be perfect.

The essence is runny and has a lightweight formulation so it's perfect for someone who has oily skin. Those who have drier skin may still find other sheet masks a lot more moisturizing/hydrating. It's the type of mask I don't have to rinse or wipe remaining essence away because it gets absorbed by the skin easily. It feels cooling and refreshing with its slightly citrus scent.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

If you are looking for an affordable facial masks that de-stresses the skin, making it a lot healthier and more supple, look no further. With its combination of Aloe and vitamins, this will calm redness and soothe the skin effortlessly without the dreaded greasy after-feel. I also did not wake up with angry zits so I'm giving it a thumbs-up. Very easy to use without any messy application. I'll make sure to grab some when I happen to drop by Watsons!

Lately, I've been more particular with my skin care and I find myself doing stuff I was never used to before. Say for example, I'm not a sheet mask type of person, but because I've tried a few amazing masks the past few weeks, it just suddenly grows on me. I've been learning to adopt Korean skincare techiques too like the 7 Skin Method--which basically means layering toner on the skin for up to seven times right after cleansing. I rarely have time to do this but I'm proud to at least do 2-3 applications. Charis sending me a huge tub of Beau N Beau Secret 7 Skin is perfect timing because I can practice this method more.

ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Skins, also commonly mistaken as "toners" in Korea is used for hydrating, soothing and balancing the skin for a healthier complexion. It is the first step in skincare after cleansing. In fact, layering them multiple times can be as good and as sufficient as your traditional moisturizers which means saving you both money and steps in your skin care regimen. Beau N Beau Secret 7 Skin claims to be a very moisturizing skin suitable for all skin types that provides vitality as well as improve the skin's texture and gives balance to it. This is perfect for those who have dry, dull and fuzzy skin and those who are suffering from sensitive, wrinkled skin and cakey makeups.

This product has no alcohol, physical or chemical exfoliants such as AHA and BHA so any possible irritation will never occur. There's also zero hazardous substances like artificial coloring, flavoring, silicone, ethanol or paraben. It contains just natural ingredients to alleviate skin troubles such as Lotus Flower (helps skin maintain moisture and brightness), Green Tea (manages to return healthy skin that has been sensitized by external stress), Bamboo (cleanses skin by adjusting the skin balance), Aloe Vera (soothes irritated skin conditions and return them to healthy, vibrant skin) and Portulaca Extract (helps calm skin and reduce external stimulation that it is being used for medical ointments). 

Moreover, it contains Panthenol (strengthens skin barrier through its calming effect and helps manage skin conditioning) and Hyaluronic Acid (which attracts surrounding moisture and is known as a natural humectant).

PACKAGING

Packaging looks very chic with that pink and white theme. There's also a silver seal attached to the nozzle inlet so you know it's safe and fresh when it gets to you.

SCENT

I kind of dislike the scent of this product. It's not very strong and overwhelming but it smells like chemicals (though the ingredient list is very safe).

APPLICATION

You are mistaken if you think you are suppose to use this product seven times all the time. You can start slowly from 2-3 times then gradually increase to full amount depends on your skin condition and other factors like possibly weather. Personally, when it's super warm, I would prefer a lighter layer so my skin can still breathe underneath. During cold days, my skin tend to feel taut and dry so I increase application from three to full amount.

You can apply this product with a cotton pad right after cleansing to get rid of remaining dirt and oil from the skin. On succeeding applications, you just have to splash a generous amount to your palms and apply it to your face and neck in tap-tap motion. Again, depends on your skin type and comfort, apply as many layer as you can. I rarely get to seven layers because I have oily skin and it can't handle too much moisture. If I do, it would be during sleeping time when I can let my skin be.

You can also soak a cotton pad or a compressed sheet mask and let it stay for a few minutes on the skin so it will absorb the moisture. I rarely do this too because I don't like wasting cotton pads lol--if that's enough reason. The best technique would be decanting some to a clean, empty spritz container and use as a mist. After cleansing, I don't do my face right away so what I usually do is to spritz a generous amount onto my skin to retain moisture, let it be while I do the rest of my body. I also bring the bottle with me to freshen up at work.

TEXTURE AND CONSISTENCY

The product is clear and has a watery consistency. It's like putting on water on your skin except it's loaded with hydrating ingredients. It dries fast without leaving any sticky or greasy residue, thanks to it's oil-free formulation.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

I like this product so much because it keeps my skin balance, hydrated and moist. I feel like I can fake a glass skin with this product. It's true that it keeps skin moist and supple without clogging the pores or cause it to produce more sebum. Using it for weeks, I feel like my skin is calmed down, redness is reduced and skin is finer and firmer. It also makes whatever I put on next get absorb easily on my skin.

Skins and toners have a special place in my heart and they save my skin every time. They save me during lazy days as they clean and hydrate skin even without me proceeding with the rest of my skincare. They also remove remaining dirt that were missed by the usual cleanser. They are very basic product that you ought to have in your stash and this Beau N Beau Secret 7 Skin in particular is something you have to invest on. I highly recommend it whether you have dry, sensitive or oily skin as it's very gentle on the skin (no stinging!) and ingredients are tried and tested. And the best part, it didn't cause me any negative skin reactions!
