Face Republic Skincare Haul + First Impression

I have three days off this week so please bear with me if I've been writing and posting non-stop. You'll not hear from me when I do my full-time job so today give me a moment to do some first impression blog with the brand Face Republic.

You know how much I love exploring and shopping online that e-commerce sites become my own 'social media'. I always check site's banners for new launches and products to try and from there, I get to be introduced to beauty brands I haven't heard of yet. I remember I first spotted Face Republic on Shopee as it was featured as the 'Brand of the Day'. From product variation to packaging, it instantly reminds me of brands like Nature Republic and Innisfree.

SEVEN NIGHTS OF BEAUTY REST

I thought "this brand is new to me so let me get to know it more" and that's when I decided to do some research. I've read in Calyxta that Face Republic products are manufactured in Korea but they were, in fact, conceptualized here in the Philippines. All the planning and brainstorming happens here and that is safe to say that they were created while considering the lifestyle of us, Filipinas. My heart never felt closer to Korean skincare than ever.

Moving forward, I never had the chance to get myself some masks or bundles despite the very reasonable price because I am trying to cut off my skincare budget to pave way for more important things in life. A-D-U-L-T-I-N-G IS WHY. When Face Republic reached out to me via Instagram private message, I felt a surge of excitement that at last, they are including me on the list of bloggers they'll entrust honest reviews to. So what are the stuff you'll see me writing about in the next few weeks?

FACE REPUBLIC TRAVEL PACK

They sent me this travel pack that includes three (3) full-sized mask sheets (Whitening Rice Formula, Soothing Aloe Extract, Nourishing Snail Essence) and two (2) sample sachets each for the products they sell: Gold Mineral Cleanser, Perfect Cover BB Cream, Crystal Glow Whitening Cream and Super Screen Sun Gel.

I like that they sell their product in sachets because you can do some test run first before committing to buy the full-sized. That way, you can gauge whether or not they are suitable for you. The accompanying pouch is very useful too because you can reuse it when you travel and fill it with some necessities.

Aside from the travel pack, they've also sent me the Seven Nights of Beauty Rest Bundle featuring seven (7) mask sheets from their skincare line namely: Soothing Aloe Extract, Hydrating Cucumber Essence, Healing Tea Trea Oil, Nourishing Snail Essence, Rejuvenating Honey Nutrient, Brightening Lemon Extract and Whitening Rice Formula. These are very basic but powerful ingredients you can always spot in Korean skincare so I'm excited to finally be able to complete a 7-Day Mask Challenge with these. When do I start? Probably, tomorrow? I'll update you, guys, on the progress! You can check my Instagram stories too for follow ups!

If you are interested in getting these bundles, you may go check FACE REPUBLIC on their Instagram account for more information on product pricing, availability and retailers! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Charm Cosmetics Angled Kabuki Buffer Brush Review

Charm Cosmetics Angled Buffer Brush
Price: P650
Bought from: an online shop

I've always been curious with brushes from Charm Cosmetics because it's a local brand that, according to most beauty bloggers I follow, creates makeup brushes that are of high quality and will last you a long time. Being the makeup brush junkie I always am, I wanted to try something and incorporate a local brand in my collection.

This Angled Kabuki Buffer Brush is included in my recent 11.11 Shopee haul. It's not really on sale but I still got to save some money because they offer free shipping option. Beauty and Minerals has this 50% sale on all Charm Cosmetics Brushes during the same sale period but I decided to do it on Shopee instead. This brush is intended for personal use so the seller I bought this from offered it for a much reasonable price (P249) which is a better way to go than paying P325 to B&M obviously.

PACKAGING

The brush is still in complete packaging with box and I like how information is printed in very chic fonts. According to CC, this brush "is made of ultra lush bristles that feels like velvet on the skin. Buff in your mineral foundation, powder foundation or any powder products with this brush. It's angled shape allows you to efficiently apply your makeup and work through the folds and contours of your skin so that no spots would be missed out. this very dense brush allows you to obtainbuildable coverage from light to full." That's quite an explanation.

The brush is almost the size of my palms which comes very, very handy whether it's for initial use or retouch. The ferrule is jet black and the handle is baby pink in color and it has the brand's logo printed in shiny fonts right slightly on the bottom part. The handle seems to be made up sturdy wood and sleek coating and doesn't feel cheap at all. The brush has duo-colored bristles and I have to agree that it's very soft. It doesn't prick the skin when used which is the very thing I consider in buying  my brushes.

The brush has gotten a huge surface for buffing so it can cover a large area of the face in few swipes. The only thing I kinda don't like is the fact that it doesn't feel as dense as other kabuki brushes I own. It's not at all flimsy, it's still dense on its own but not as I expected it would be. Consider this as a minor complaint though. Other than that, this brush blends powder products like a dream.

I like that its serves a lot of purpose like buffing powders on top of your liquid foundation. You can also use it to apply loose powders, powder foundations and pretty much everything that's dry and you can expect an airbrush finish. Because of its angled shape, sometimes I like using it for enhancing the shape of the face through contouring or bronzing. And since it's not as dense, it's even nice for applying blush onto your cheeks and it just diffuses the color evenly and naturally.

Overall, I would say this brush is worth repurchasing. It does multiple things making it perfect to bring for makeup gigs or even for personal use. You can wait until the next B&M sale happens so you can get it for half its price. I am glad to have discovered a local brush manufacturer that sells high quality tools without breaking the bank and I am looking forward to try more from Charm Cosmetics.

Do let me know what Charm Cosmetics brushes you've tried before! Happy blogging!

PH Faces Health and Environmental Risks Amid Lack of Landfills

The Philippines is expected to move further towards urbanization as it grows and develops. Unfortunately, its solid waste infrastructure is unable to keep pace with the economic and population growth. Inadequate, over-filled dumpsites and landfills are causing various health and environmental problems.

Some of the serious environmental risks caused by waste overflow landfills are ground and surface water contamination, flooding, greenhouse gas production, air pollution, exposure to toxins and spread of disease. Many disposal sites across the country contain infectious material, threatening sanitation workers and waste pickers and, eventually the general public.

Tests of liquid runoff or leachate from Rodriguez and Payatas dump sites were found to contain high levels of contaminants. Most of the leachate seeps untreated into groundwatersources of drinking water and flows to the Marikina and Pasig River systems and Manila Bay. Landfills and dump sites, despite government’s efforts to situate them in areas far from population centers, still pose a threat to the health and the environment.

A lot of wastes, about one-third of solid waste generated in the cities, are often dumped indiscriminately and often end up clogging the drains, causing flooding and increase in the populations of rodents and other pests. The urban poor suffer most from life-threatening conditions resulting from uncollected garbage.

In this age of digitalization and technology, one of the innovative solutions for solid waste management is decentralization using pyrolysis technology. Pyrolysis is coined from the Greek terms pyro or fire and lysis or separating. It is the industrial process of breaking down large molecules of waste such as agricultural residues, scraps, tires, and non-recyclable materials into smaller molecules of gas, oil and carbon black. One of the by-product of pyrolysis technology is ash which can be mixed with aggregates for construction purposes.

Most importantly, people should realize that they play a huge role in solving the massive garbage problem in the Philippines. It should be the country’s goal to create an environment free of garbage, minimizing of waste disposal to landfill, educating the community and make them aware of their roles and responsibilities, and to involve the business community in solid waste management.

The P73 Billion Industry

Waste disposal is reaching crisis proportions in the Philippines. Landfills and rivers are overflowing with garbage. Piles of garbage obstruct sidewalks or are dumped on vacant lots, left to rot until they smell and attract hordes of flies.

We know that this is an existing concern in our country. What many of us do not know is that this massive garbage problem is, in fact, a P73 billion industry.

In 2016, 40,000 tons of garbage were collected every day. This totaled 14.6 million tons of garbage per year. If each kilo only cost P5 for disposal, the total cost in waste disposal for 2016 was an outstanding P73 billion. The money is used to pay the local government, the garbage haulers and the gate fee at landfills. It has even increased this year because the usual P5,000 cost per truckload of garbage with five cubic meter capacity is now P8,000.

The yearly volume of waste generated is expected to increase from 13.48 million tons in 2010 to 16.63 million tons in 2020. In Metro Manila, averages of 9,000 tons of garbage were collected per day from 2012 to 2016. In just five years, daily garbage collection in Metro Manila has reached 93.8 million cubic meters. This is due to rapid urbanization, economic growth and development, changes in lifestyles and consumption patterns.

Aside from the massive amount of garbage generated, there are also the problems of improper disposal and lack of landfills.

There are more than a hundred garbage hauling operators in Metro Manila but only three landfills - the Quezon City Sanitary Landfill, Navotas Sanitary Land Fill and Rizal Provincial Sanitary Landfill. New sites are hard to find and are much farther away from Metro Manila. The nearest available landfill is in Montalban, Rizal and it has already reached its maximum carrying capacity, way before 2022 when it is supposed to reach its limit.

Uncollected garbage, about a third of the solid waste generated in the cities, often ends up in drains, causing flooding and an increase in the population of rats, mice and other pests. The urban poor suffer most from the health problems resulting from poor management of solid waste.

The government has the main responsibility for ensuring waste is properly disposed of to avert health and environmental problems. But every Filipino can and should help by properly segregating garbage and by reducing, reusing and recycling.

Lily's Touch Miracle Night Cream Product Review

Lily's Touch Miracle Night Cream
Bought for: P250 | SRP: 450
Bought from: Lily's Touch Beauty

I have some Lily's Touch products before and my all-time favorite would be the DIAMOND POLISH. That smells so good and the scrub just slough away dead skin cells in an instant, revealing a brighter and clearer skin. I've also gotten some queries and reads on the blogs I've posted before which is why I assume you'll want a review on the new Lily's Touch product--Miracle Night Cream. I am not sure if this is the newest addition to Lily's Touch skincare line but I haven't heard of this just until a couple of months back. Checking the brand's website, there aren't much updates either.

CLAIMS

INGREDIENTS

PACKAGING

Lily's Touch Miracle Night Cream is housed in a transparent plastic tub which doesn't feel cheap at all as it's quite sturdy. The cap seals tightly too so the product does not leak. I am not really a fan of products in tub containers no matter how convenient they are for travelling. I just think it's not very hygienic as you have to dip your finger several times whenever you are using it and they tend to get exposed to the air making it prone to bacteria buildup and product contamination. No one can complain though so just make sure your hands are super clean prior to use.

SCENT, TEXTURE AND EASE OF APPLICATION

It has a clean, floral scent which is nice but still has a bit of a pungent scent to it so I'm still contemplating whether or not I like it. The scent smells like it hasn't been perfected yet but still not as bothersome as you would imagine.

It looks like white globs of cream with a thin texture and it dries very easily with a soft matte finish. I was quite surprised because night creams are usually rich and heavy as they are loaded with different actives and humectants to treat the skin overnight. This night cream is just lightweight and non-greasy but not as hydrating as other for-PM products. It felt weird at first because my skin feels tightened once the product completely sets but I just got used to it. Make sure you use it as the last step of your skincare because you won't be able to put any products on top without them forming into tiny lumps of dried creams.

PERFORMANCE

I used this product for the last 2 weeks everyday before sleeping as the last step of my skincare. I didn't use anything new in my skin other than this so I'm quite sure this is the culprit of why I broke out on the parts of my face where I rarely get one--nose and in between my brows. I had this huge zit on the top of my nose when I was in second year high school, it left a huge scar but nothing comes next after that.

The first three nights I was using it, my skin still looked clear as my period just passed. After that, clusters of tiny painful bumps appear on my cheeks and jaw and slightly over my forehead which is quite normal for me. It usually happens every time I use something my skin is not yet accustomed to. It all became alarming when I noticed that I'm already breaking out all over my nose and in between my brows. They are very tiny, painful, itchy and pus-filled. I usually get those kind when I'm using something not suitable for my skin. I stopped because it's not getting any better. After that, my skin slowly recuperates.

I have oily and acne-prone skin and I couldn't hide the fact that this product disappoints me. It could be the presence of Sunflower Oil (my skin rarely tolerates oil-based products). I don't hate Lily's Touch for what happened because there are some products from their skincare line that works for me. This didn't make me any less excited to try more from them such as the Revamp Gel and mist. We all have different skin type so if you don't have any reactions with any of the ingredients that are present, this might work for you.

Do let me know what you think of Lily's Touch Miracle Night Cream by typing in your comments down below! A good day to everyone!

I Found The Perfect Beauty Blender Dupes (AOA Wonder and Super Soft Wonder Blenders)

AOA Wonder Blender (magenta)
AOA Super Soft Wonder Blender (blush pink)
Bought for: P100 and P130
Bought from: an online shop

You've probably heard about AOA Blenders being a dupe for the ever popular makeup game changers, the Beauty Blender. I wouldn't be surprised if brands keep coming up with something similar to what a BB is in terms of texture and performance. I have tried a few sponges but I haven't found anything that rivals the latter until I have tried AOA Wonder Blenders.

AOA is Miss A's exclusive cosmetics line and they literally sell their products at $1. No joke. There are still a few exceptions though. AOA has 10-piece brush sets that retails for about $10. If you are going to divide the total amount, you're basically paying for $1 a piece. I would suggest you getting the AOA Essential 24-Piece Brush Set if you would like to save more because that just retails for $20. It's like you getting 4 complimentary brushes! Unbelievable. Now I think about it, how does Miss A's operation ever survive? Lol.

The magenta sponge is basically the original wonders blenders of AOA which make a great buzz in the makeup world. The blush pink is the Super Soft Wonder Blender which is a special edition product and has been made and released for a good cause. Miss A has this Pawpaw Charity Program that aims to help and support animal rescue charities. With this campaign, they release special edition products and proceeds will go to charity organizations that protect and care for animals.

I really do support and admire this kind of business because they not just sell their products at minimum profit, they have caring and thoughtful hearts too that connects them to people. As a consumer, there's no better feeling as supporting and paying for a good cause.

INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTION FOR USE

The AOA Wonder Blender comes in different colors and shapes. There's this tear-drop, there's beveled, sculpted, etc. I prefer the tear drop one because it's easier to use and the shape makes the job done. This blender has a really chubby body and comes to a point that easily covers hard to reach areas of the face like nose and eye areas. When wet, it doubles in size which makes it big enough to cover large areas in very few buffing motions. Compared to BB, AOA Wonder Blender feels firmer and still has a tiny bit of a rubbery texture but still soft on its own.

The AOA Super Soft Blender is slimmer and is twice softer than the original wonder blender. Both double in size when soaked in water and indeed become softer and bouncier. I hate to say this but this sponge is just like a Beauty Blender. In fact, it's the best dupe I've found for a BB, even softer than REAL TECHNIQUES MIRACLE COMPLEXION SPONGE I've been loving for quite long. Texture and softness are very close to that of a BB's. IT'S CRAZY. If you are going to blind fold me, I might not be able to tell which is which!

AOA Super Soft Wonder Blender is more porous than the original version. I have to stress out that it's softer and definitely more worth buying. You better stock up because you don't know when it's gonna get sold out. One thing I noticed though is that once you wash this sponge, it sort of becomes a little distorted and tends to lose its tear-drop shape. I'm pleased to see that it retains its shape once it completely dries. Because of the color, liquid makeups can stain it very easily and is hard to clean afterwards.

AOA WONDER BLENDER. BEAUTY BLENDER. AOA SUPER SOFT WONDER BLENDER.

Here's how the blenders compare to my unused Beauty Blender. BB is smaller in size so you can tell AOA's got some advantage as they get the job done easier.

If you are looking for a good BB dupe, I would definitely say buy AOA's Super Soft Blender. It's just $1.5 when you shop at Miss A compared to BB's $20 retail price. It blends foundation like a dream and doesn't seem to punch you in the face. There's some slight shape mishaps but it doesn't affect its overall performance. These could be the best makeup tool you'll ever get with just a dollar and a half!

Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Hydrogel Eye Patch Review

Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Hydrogel Eye Patch
Bought for: Free | SRP: P841.50
From: Go Bloom and Glow

Hey, there! Today, I will be sharing a review on this Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Hydrogel Eye Patch I got as a prize for winning Go Bloom and Glow's try me event. I am very excited to make a review on this because I've only tried a couple of Heimish products in my life--this and the REFRESH WATER CLEAN UP PEELING TONER which is pretty much so-so. Trying out another product from the brand will help me get to know it more.

I have been seeing this eye patch all over Instagram and online shops now because a lot of beauty enthusiasts I follow rave about it. I haven't tried a lot of eye patches before so it really cheers me up to try out something new. Without further ado, let's just dive right into the review!

CLAIMS

Perfect for tired eyes, this multifunctional Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Hydrogel Eye Patch not only brightens dark circles under eyes, but also helps skin stay firm and bouncy. With Bulgarian rose water as its star ingredient, each patch is full of skin-benefiting vitamins and minerals, plus ultra-hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties. Made with unique highly elastic hydro-gel material that allows essence to fully absorb into skin for maximum benefits, the Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Hydrogel Eye Patch can also be used anywhere on your skin that needs extra care such as your forehead and cheeks.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Using the spatula to separate the patches, lift out two pieces and place them directly under the eyes or wherever your skin needs extra care (such as forehead and cheeks). Leave on for 20-30 minutes -- these hydrogel material will stay moist for longer than most mask products. Pat in any remaining serum with fingertips.

PACKAGING

The overall packaging looks very chic and pretty. The patches comes in a sturdy plastic tub with a white and pink color combination. There isn't much information printed on the tub so you really would've to rely on the box for the ingredient list, directions and claims (written in Korean).

I am not really a fan of bulky tubs like this because it's not very hygienic to me. Once opened, you get everything exposed to the air which pretty much leads to product contamination or bacteria buildup. I still appreciate that it comes with an inner plastic seal for extra protection and a spatula so you don't have to have physical contact with the product inside.

SCENT

The patches smells like rose which isn't exactly a surprise considering Bulgarian Rose Water is its star ingredient. I truly love the scent and now I'm looking for a real rose fragrance because of this.

TEXTURE

Oh just how surprised as I was after opening the container! Aside from the lovely rose scent, the light pink patches are a stand out because of the shiny, shimmery effect. Heimish gave it such a very nice aesthetic. The patches are very soft and bouncy and fun to use. Applying it to the skin gives a vibe of royalty, agree? I see myself like a princess doing her usual skin care. Was it a very silly idea? You can't blame me!

The patches are made of hydrogels so you can only imagine how much hydration is in there. The hydrogels are soaked in thick, silky essences that will definitely give your skin sufficient moisture and hydration your dry under eyes need. You just have to be careful when applying this one because it tears very easily.

PERFORMANCE

I like to use these hydrogel patches before sleeping as the skin absorbs skincare better while at it. I always use the spatula to scoop a patch from the container and apply it on my under eyes. I know I apply the patches wrong but I just think that the upward curve from the pointed end fits my eyes better and the essences from the bigger area of the patch works to moisturize my cheeks too. This product is a bit expensive so might as well maximize its use lol.

The essence is quite thick but still wears comfortably even during hot days because of its cooling effect. It also takes time to dry which isn't very common to most hydrogel patches I've tried before. That just means that it has more essence to it and you get a better value for your money. Because its drenched in liquid, the patches tends to slip down the cheeks every now and then so it would be better if you apply it while you're lying down. Wait a few more minutes if you're about to do a chore and until then the patches will adhere well.

I have been using these for about a month now, 3-4 times a week but lately, I find myself using it more often because I've noticed my under eyes are more pronounced and darker due to stress and lack of sleep. My eyes look tired too and using it for two days consecutively, I've noticed my under eyes are significantly less baggy. I just don't prefer using it on most parts of my face because I find the essence too thick and sticky given that I have oily skin. If you have dry skin, this is even more suitable.

If you are looking for an eye mask that does it job well in reducing baggy under eyes and hydrates the skin to prevent sagging and fine lines from appearing too early, you have to try this out. It keeps the skin plump and healthy and definitely moisturized throughout the day. I am not sure how many patches are in there but there's a lot and it would last you for a month or so depends on usage.

I take a quick look on Heimish website and there I find a hack you might wanna do your self with just a few patches and hot water mixed together and voila, you just created yourself a facial mist! Just transfer the melted hydrogels in a spritz container and use it to freshen up during the day. I tried to melt it by placing the hydrogels in a glass of water and then placing it to a bigger tub poured with hot water and it makes a fine body moisturizer/toner!

If Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Hydrogel Eye Patch interests you, you can buy this from GO BLOOM AND GLOW website for a discounted price and let me know how it does wonders to your skin! Happy blogging!
