Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser
Bought for: P350 | SRP: 599 (in Lazada)
Bought from: an online shop
And since I consider Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser one of my greatest loves, I've been so enthusiastic about trying other products from their skin care line. I've long emptied my 590ml cleanser so I was looking for another bottle while I was doing my online shopping and there I spotted this cleanser meant for oily and acne-prone skin. It seemed like it was specifically calling me! Even though I try not to buy a lot of cleansers 'cause to be honest, I still have tons untouched, I still gave in. I am currently bombarded with both pesky white and black heads and painful pus-filled bumps--I never wanted a proper skincare so badly! Thinking how Cetaphil healed and soothed my skin before, I never had second thoughts about this this Oily Skin Cleanser for Acne Prone Skin.
Claims
Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser provides effective cleanisng foaming action removes surface oils, dirt and makeup without leaving your skin dry. It rinses clean and does not leave any irritating residue. It claims to be gentle enough for every day use, non-comedogenic, pH-balanced and non-irritating.
Cetaphil's tagline plays in my head: Every age. Every Stage. Every Day. It makes me believe that what I'm putting on my skin is gentle and will not do me any harm. Even though this is mainly intended for acne-prone skin, the ingredients are so gentle that it would fit just almost anyone's skin type. I'm not saying indiscreetly that it's gentle based on nothing or because it claims to be. I have been trying this for weeks already and just like the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, this one is just as mild on the skin. Keep on reading for more information!
Ingredients
Packaging
First thing first, well, packaging first! Just like all Cetaphil Products, the packaging is very minimalist yet clean and loaded with information. It comes with a pump that easily dispenses product and you can lock it by twisting to the right if you are bringing it for travels which I don't think I'd prefer because I got the biggest size. Don't need to fret though 'cause it's available in smaller bottles--the ones you can easily tuck away to pouches.
As we all know, Cetaphil products, being so sought-after and all, imitations are something to battle with. I know I got mine for more than half of it's retail price, but I know it's genuine. One indicator is the packaging. If you are buying online, ask for more pictures especially the batch codes and other possible trademarks of Cetaphil. I was able to find the batch code of this product so I know it's genuine. Cetaphil products don't lather much as well which is also the case with this cleanser.
Scent and Texture
Compared to Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, this cleanser comes in a clear white liquid with a runny formula. The former was cloudy and shimmery. I'm sorry to compare but the scent is way too different as well. I love the subtle scent of Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and was a bit taken aback after I catch a whiff of Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser. It was way too strong (like old fragrances) and to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of heavily-scented products. If you are quite sensitive to classic scents, then this one may not be for you. Since I'm not particular with this factor very much, it's something I was forgiving about. I'd let it pass for now.
This cleanser does not lather very much which is favorable for me because it's non-drying. I know my skin's oily but it has been reacting lately so it can get dry and tight too. I wouldn't want something that will strip the skin it's natural moisture and the fact that this cleanser cleanses enough is but fine with me.
Performance
This product lives up to its claims. I still get oily every now and then but my skin gets more balanced and it takes a while before I notice a layer of oil in my skin. I know it fought breakouts too because I've been getting noticeably smaller bumps now compared to previously when I was using Mario Badescu Skin Care Acne Facial Cleanser. It does not totally get rid of makeup residue so I would suggest that you use a tough makeup remover prior to cleansing the face or use a toner that might be able to deep-cleanse the skin without drying it out if you don't use too much makeup. When used daily, this will soften the skin and gives a clearer complexion.
Overall Thoughts
This product could have been a really nice one had it been able to get rid of my most pimples just like how Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser did. This would have been a cleanser that works for me had I not tried the other variant before. It's different now because I already set my expectations and have something to compare it with, you know what I mean? This product didn't dry out my skin nor it gives an extra layer of hydration so it's like an okay product for me. I would still say that I prefer Gentle Skin Cleanser over this because the effect is quite more significant--clearer, more hydrated and polished skin with minimal to no breakouts. Nevertheless, I would still continue using this for its gentleness and will try to use different products in conjunction to see if it complements other skin care.
