Real Techniques Miracle Blotting Cushions Review

Real Techniques Miracle Blotting Cushions
Bought for: P450
Bought from: Real Techniques

I guess one of the perks I see during this enhanced community quarantine is being free all day doing stuff I neglected for the past few months. Thanks to modern technology - my life won't be as boring as I find something to do other than Netflix. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all elated staying at home because first of all, working is my priority. Secondly, I'm really bothered by our national safety being disturbed by this pandemic caused by the novel corona virus thing. I also worry about the safety of my family but there's nothing much we can do right now other than putting ourselves in self-quarantine, do we? Might as well be productive so here's me reviving my old blogger account just because.

Today, I wanna talk about these Real Techniques Miracle Blotting Cushions I got a few months ago from Real Techniques official store in Shopee. I'm always a huge fan of Sam and Nic (youtube sensations and makeup professionals) but despite the numerous awesome products they create and sell in the market, there's always a few who failed to gain my approval. Yeah, I'm not very pleased with these miracle blotting cushions. Please continue reading after the break to know why!

CLAIMS

  • These multifunctional miracle blotting cushions create a smooth and mattified finish; soft, flexible foam contours to features; Tip: Use damp dry to dab on foundation, smooth creases, or blot oily areas; ideal for liquid foundation or cushion foundation.
  • Real Techniques Miracle Blotting Cushions are a great substitute for blotting papers; washable and reusable, you'll get a longer life from blotting cushions than from traditional blotting papers that are used once and thrown away; use with or without makeup
  • Through Real Techniques, women all over the world are transforming their makeup routines, and themselves as well, with the approachable expertise, friendship, & expert tools from Sam & Nic; welcome to the Real Techniques Community, and get behind the look

These blotting cushions are housed in sturdy plastic packaging. I appreciate that Real Techniques packed their brushes in a way that the products inside are well protected but overall, I just think that they are overdoing it. There's just too much plastic which is so way unhealthy for the environment. I'm all for eco-friendly packaging nowadays so I think I'd love it more it they would just use cardboard boxes instead.

The sponge has two faces - the sponge side and a white rubbery side. The orange side resembles the texture and softness of  the classic Real Techniques Miracle Sponge and so as the shape. These cushions are just flat in comparison and are smaller so it doesn't take up too much space in your makeup kit. Because they are tiny, I always have a hard time thinking how it'll fit in my pouch without it being squeezed and deformed. I tried placing it on a compact powder and it works. Sadly, it doesn't fit just about any compacts that you have. It should be in a rectangular packaging to accommodate the unusual shape of the cushion. Also, the powder product could transfer onto the cushion defeating its purpose of 'blotting oils' on the face. I like how compact these products are but they are not very ergonomic especially with the unusual design. I understand that they made it look like that to match the contours of the face but even that, doesn't work. Moreover, they loses that flat, smooth surface when you wash and dry them.

These are reusable pads that is supposed to work as blotting papers to remove excess oil on the face. That was the main reason why I got these in the first place. Unfortunately, they do not remove oils at all using the dabbing motion. You have to really drag the product onto the face to remove shine and by then, all your makeup will be gone. This is only best for reapplying powders and remove creases on the skin without taking away anything. Your makeup brushes or existing sponges could do the trick a lot easier though. Photo below shows me with my bare skin before and after using the cushion. Removing a little bit of shine took me so much hard work already and I can still spot some oily areas.

Overall, I'm not very much impressed with these Real Techniques Miracle Blotting Cushions and I won't repurchase considering the fact that I can just search through my stash for better sponges and brushes to use for retouch. I wish I spent my P450 to regular blotting papers instead. My favorite, by the way, are the Clean & Clear Oil Control Films!
