BCL X Althea Korea Sunrise Moonrise Eye Palette - Review and Swatches

BCL X Althea Korea Sunrise Moonrise Eye Palette
Bought for: Free | SRP: P1,780
From: Althea Korea

I have been a makeup enthusiast since grade school and believe it or not, I’m still working on my blending skills. Applying eye shadows is something I don’t do quite often and I’m only getting the chance to do so every time I get a new eye palette to play with. I don’t do full face on a daily basis but when I get the chance to flaunt an eye look during our event, a lot has complimented the one that I randomly came up with. That’s when I decided to do a separate review featuring this palette I got from Althea Korea - BCL X Althea Korea Sunrise Moonrise Eye Palette. Please keep on reading!

CLAIMS

Add some celestial magic into your beauty routine with Althea's very first eye shadow palette: Sunrise & Moonrise! Made in collaboration with Bunga Citra Lestari, these 8 shades will take you from gorgeous daytime to sultry night time, giving you the effortlessly glamorous feminine style Bunga is known for. In shimmers, mattes and glitters, these pigmented shadows glide easily onto the skin and blend out like a dream, allowing you to create an array of looks suitable for any occasion.

Bunga Citra Lestari is an Indonesian singer and actress that have graced the screens of many across South East Asia. Affectionately known to her fans as BCL, she’s also a beauty and fashion icon that exudes style, beauty and femininity.

PACKAGING

It comes with a cardboard box with floral design and stuff like that. The palette itself is very sleek and made of sturdy plastic. It isn’t as huge as other palettes would be so it’s something you can easily toss into your makeup bag. It looks simple from the outside, but the real gem can be seen once you open it up. I like that it comes in a full-size mirror so you can easily make yourself up anywhere you want to. The pans are huge and P1000 is worth it considering that you are getting a total of 8 shades.

The colors aren’t labeled so let’s just follow what it says from the box. Let’s label them #1-#8 all the way from up to bottom. I would appreciate it more if they took some time to name the shades.

TEXTURE AND EASE OF APPLICATION

I find the formulation different from each other. It’s always the case with eye shadows so I kind of expected that will be the same for this palette. The #2 which is the only matte shade in the palette is a little bit powdery while the rest are mostly creamy. There are fallouts but not as much. All of them has good pigmentation too for its price. With use, I noticed that the #6 and the #8 are the most pigmented and creamiest. They are so opaque in just one swipe and because of that, they are quite tricky to blend. You have to have a light hand when doing so.

SHADES

#1 – a champagne shade that I normally would either apply on the corner of my eyes or on top of my eyelid to sort of create an inviting look and to also highlight. It makes eyes look bigger and awake.

#2 – a matte beige shade that is probably the best transition shade to go for in this palette. I use this color often to warm up the crease and to make other colors pop out. I’m glad this palette come up with this matte shade so I can break free from all shimmers and glitters.

#3 – a glittery pink shade that I normally would use in the center part of my lid to make my eyes pop out. One of two glittery shadows in the kit that you can alternate and wear on night outs.

#4 – a glittery golden shade that has the same formulation with #3. They yield the most fallout. Hence, they look very stunning and again, these are my best bet if and only if I’m going to parties.

#5 – a shimmery cool brown shade that I seldom use. I imagine myself using this if I go for a neutral look.

#6 – a wine shade that I opt for to deepen the crease. This is what I use in the tutorial I did last February and is also a favorite. It’s so creamy, soft and has a good pigmentation.

#7 – a shimmery baby pink shade which I can use as a highlighting shade. I just didn’t like this color very much as it doesn’t suit my warm skin tone.

#8 – a burgundy shade which I also use a crease color to deepen the eyes. Not my most favorite but the formulation makes up for the shade.

LONGEVITY

These are so long-lasting. I had to stress it because I am impressed. I have oily eye lids which I consider a burden because eye shadows tend to crease and move around. However, these eyeshadows had stay put for more than 12 hours or even more had I not washed them off. I wore them to a party at around 5:00 PM, partied and get off at work by 6:00 AM and the color’s still there. Not as vivid as it was but still noticeable from afar. I got so much compliment that day. I wouldn’t want to remove it, but my eyes are feeling a bit heavy from the mascara and contact lens that I was wearing.

I had to tell you that I was in an airconditioned room most of the time so that lengthens the wear of the eye shadow. But say it was during summer, I’d still think that these will last in my skin for a long time – probably less, but still for hours.

PERFORMANCE

I am seriously loving this palette from Althea Korea. I haven’t used a lot of high-end eye shadows, so I don’t have anything to compare this palette with but given the price tag and the color pay-off, I still think this product is worth your money. There are still a lot to improve on – mostly shade selection – but I’m happy that I can create different looks as well as mix and match the shades to wear depends on my mood.

I hoped that they had replaced some shades with more mattes so there’s no need to reach out for other palettes for more transition colors. Nonetheless, I appreciate them putting bold and subtle colors to balance the eye look. I’m still happy overall and I am secretly wishing Althea Korea would come out with another palette featuring neutral shades!
